At 5-years-old I saw a magician in the Dominican Republic take a chicken and make his head vanish. Then it would appear in his pocket. You would see the chicken head poke out and do a little squawk, then vanish again and appear back on the chicken’s body. It was some trippy s***. I later moved to Peru where, in the high altitudes, I learned to tear and restore a newspaper. I always wondered then, how could that street magician vanish that chicken’s head? My family moved to Bolivia where I discovered that if you move your TV antenna just right the magic of Xuxa would come in (this is when I learned Portuguese). She is still the most magical magician I have ever seen, besides the guy that could make the chicken’s head disappear.

Years later, I was walking down an old street in Key West where, at in an antique shop, I purchased a coin trick for five dollars, with the initials PG written on it. I later learned about [PG’s] crazy adventures, and his wonderful inventions became magic in my hands. I was able to destroy my friends in the Miami Correctional Facility (also known as Miami Lakes Middle School). Here, I discovered the importance of misdirecting my teachers and creating my own ideas about performing magic for my friends, but mostly hostile Miami kids.

Many years later for my high school talent show, I vanished a chicken’s head and had it appear on top of a dancing hank.

Q&A:

Q: What is theory11 to you? Why is this site different?
A: theory11 is an opportunity to go back to a time when I was creative about where magic could go. It also says to me, “Think outside of your normal box, and push for something beyond the rules of today.” This site takes an active approach at creating better magicians that are empowered with better, more creative magic.

Q: What got you into magic?
A: The chicken man magician… straight from the DR.

Q: How long have you been performing?
A: I don’t perform for a living, but I have been into magic for 13 years.

Q: Do you have a favorite effect?
A: The Coin On Shoulder.

A: Chris Kenner / Gaeton Bloom

Q: What's the last trick you saw that fooled the crap out of you
A: Jason Alford's Cutting the Aces in TSD (The Second Deal) 2006, and every time Aaron Shields does his Bottom Deal.

Q: What do you see as wrong with the industry today?
A: What industry, there is no industry. theory11 is an opportunity to co-create with the magic community and build a more inclusive community of people from around the world that love magic and taking their magic to a new level. Something outside of the normal every day.

Q: What advice would you give to those that are just starting in magic?
A: Learn as much as you can and have fun playing with different ideas.
