Years in Magic

Hi! I'm Tom, and I live in Buckinghamshire, England. I first got into magic as my Granddad used to be part of the inner magic circle in London. I have now taken on his love for magic and creating my own tricks everyday. I love to show my magic to people round the world and have performed magic to people in: England, Wales, Texas (USA), Honduras, Rhodes, France, Spain, and Uganda. I have also used my magic to help raise money for the charity streetkidsdirect. If there is anything else you would like to know about me, or if you just want to chat, please feel free to email me.

How did you first get started in magic?

I first got started in magic when I found an old box magic trick in my attic. It had belonged to my Granddad and it was a fantastic trick of making someone's head disappear! I then started to look up magic myself and play with cards. As I started off teaching myself (as I believe most people do!) I have a nature of holding my deck in my left hand even though I am right handed, but would perform ambitious card with the deck in my right hand! Weird I know.

Which artists have inspired you the most in your work thus far?

Wow, where do you start! Angelo Carbone - I have no idea how his brain works but it is just amazing and his lecture is great fun to watch. I also love his way of making big illusions a lot smaller. Wayne Fox - I love all his gimmick ideas and his performance is just brilliant. Steve Dela - Very easy to talk to, and has a very good understanding of a lot the newest and latest effects. Ben Hanlin - He has just released a new series in the UK called tricked, where he performs magic pranks on the public which is just hilarious. Go check it out.

If you could have dinner with any magician, past or present, who would that be and why?

My Granddad all the way! I wish he was still here just because I could imagine us talking for hours on end about magic and I just wish he was still here to show me his ideas. I'm sure he's looking down on me now thinking how crazy fast magic has moved on!

What is your creative process - how do you come up with new effects and ideas?

I find it really hard to think of something completely new. Instead I watch effects I like and before I buy it I try and work it out for myself. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I can't work it out, and just sometime I think of a new way to do it which is better for me.
