i talked to people on this site...... and they were showing no respect for this art. they promote exposure...and say they're only in it to get girls, "get noticed", or cause they have nothing better to do. its like they don't even care what they're doing, they have no passion for the art. they just want people to like them more.
they also said they they think most the guys on this site have the same philosophy on it as they do.

im interested to hear wut you think of this.

Whoa Whoa Whoa. If you are talking about our IRC discussion, then I never said I promote exposure, I said it can help some people get into magic, but I never said it was ok. And I said I had nothing better to do as a joke.

You should read some of our other IRC discussions, and I do care about it, I don't know about anyone else there, but I do.

xxxNikkixx Can you not write in like Text Language. This is a problem if people are promoting exposer.

JDEN

exposure? I can't remember if it was you or not but someone keeps writing 'exposer' instead of 'exposure', I'm sorry but I can't get past those sorts of things.. that's just the way I am.. believe me; it's nothing personal.

Unfortunately there are a few people who are in magic to get popular and to get girls etc. However these people are definitely a minority. I think most people have a lot more respect for magic than to use it to get girls.

These people may say that other people are in magic for the same reasons as them, it seems to me like they are trying to justify their pathetic reason for doing magic.

I don't think these people will stay in magic for long anyway, they will probably realise that it takes a long time to become a good magician and takes a lot of dedication and it won't really them help get girls.

same here when ever i do cards for friends even strangers surely after performing they'll come to me and ask me if i can teach them some tricks.. the first thing i would ask them is WHY????? unfortunately every one of them replies because they just want to or because they want to be cool and the never ending.... because it get girls...

what i usually do is teach them a trick that really relies on set up and has nothing to do with slieght of hand.. see if they really want to learn and practice.....
in a way im trying to get them into magic without giving away our secrets our lies....

its just sad to know that people get into magic because of the wrong reasons...

Welcome to my world. I agree with you and the last time this was brought up, no one agreed with me.

With all this commercialism, people think they will become a god if they do magic. What are people going to think when they just happen to wander on a site like T11 or E and see either a preview for Dangerous or Factory Sealed? It's annoying, but it's true. You can IM me on AIM if you want. My info is in my signature. I actually am passionate about the art.

What's wrong with getting girls? Girls are awesome.

I do flourishing because I love it, and magic... ^

i never said there was anything wrong with getting girls in general. i was saying that its wrong to only do magic in order to get girls. if u do magic because you love it then thats good, but other people do it only to get girls and thats wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you, in not doing magic just for the girls, and in doing so, disrespecting the art.

However, I'm curious as to what your justification for not doing magic for girls is? And HOW this disrespects the art?

Who says that you can't do magic to get girls while being extremely devoted to the art?

Once again, I'm on your side. I'm not trying to start an argument, I'd just like to know what your reasoning is.

I don't get what so wrong with that. If the guy spends hundreds of dollars on cards, books, dvds just to perform magic so girls will like him doesn't that make him devoted to the art. I mean magic is to entertain. I know that David Copperfield, and those other guys would be pretty disappointed if they never got a girl in there life. Impressing girls is what guys do. They practice sports, exercise just so girls can like them. If these guys don't respect the art then how should they respect the art. Practice magic in front of the mirror for hours and rarely perform. Then when a girl comes up to you and says what a good show you had you walk away, hide in your room and repeat the same process over again. Sounds a bit unnatural to me.

Oh, how terribly wrong you are.

People who love their sport, their hobby, or their art are not in it just so the opposite sex will find them more entertaining.

For example, I bodybuild and exercise (yes, they are two very different things) so that I can stay in shape, and be healthy. I could care less about attracting females, in all honesty, my personality is enough for that. I practice magic because it's something I enjoy doing, because I love the look of awe and wonder on peoples' faces. I don't care what others think of me, whether they display curiosity or laugh at me and call me "geeky"- I know that what I do hits them hard and leaves them puzzled.

That's what it's all about, people. You need to understand that. Magic is not for fame, women (or men), or money. It's simply to entertain people, to brighten their day and cause a lasting, happy memory.

ok doing magic ONLY to get girls is what im saying is wrong...if u do magic because you like it and your devoted to it..and u happen to meet a girl while doing it then thats ok....but doing it only for girls isnt.

ok spending $$ on something to do something just to get a girl to like him is not being devoted to the art....being devoted to the art would be doing it to entertain someone, make someone happy, because you enjoy doing it and have a good time too. yes david copperfield probly does get to meet girls like that but i doubt thats the only reason he does it. you shouldnt just do sports and excercise to impress a girl...she should like you for your personality not for something you do. and your getting a little extreme...i never said anything about practicing only to your self and never performing...and if you happen to meet a girl while performing thats okay but its not okay to do it only for that reason.
