I originally wasn't planning to waste my time on this, but I can't sleep right now, so what the hell.

ok so i worked on this for 8 hours i was home you probally know why and yes i said i would leave t11 but i went to a counsler today

I first want to say that this makes no sense. That would be like if I arrived at a party and someone said, "Hey, Alex! I thought you said you weren't going to make it!" and I replied, "Yeah, but I took swing dancing lessons with a drag queen."

Anyway, you know the drill. Thoughts as they occur to me.

0:06 - You want to run that by me one more time? Also, I can't see your face, which is bad.
0:13 - I don't care.
0:16 - Stop saying "uh." You need to get to a Toastmasters chapter.
0:22 - Why are you telling me all this? I don't care.
0:36 - Thank you, Captain Obvious. How about actually shuffling them?
0:41 - Stop telling me what you're going to do and then do it. Also, I'm a voyeur watching you through a camera. How can I tell you stop?
0:51 - Have you ever performed this for a living person? Ever? There is not a single sentence here that is your own.
1:02 - Stop explaining everything to me. I have functioning eyes, I can tell what's going on.
1:07 - Excuse me? An audience does not know what a break is. Don't run if you're not being chased, damn it! Now they're going to be watching for it.
1:22 - I've seen better acting in porn.
1:25 - You're too young to be arthritic. Stop holding the cards like that.
1:32 - Go to your local library and get a copy of "An Actor Prepares" right now, because this is just painful.
1:36 - If you have to explain the joke, it's not funny.
1:49 - Joke's over. This has gone on way too long. The payoff is not going to be worth it. And release the cards from your death grip.
1:56 - No it isn't. Kid, do you honestly expect me to humor that bull**** story? You're not a world-weary antique dealer or a veteran of the Las Vegas stage. There's no way you'd have any historical magic antiques. And besides that, the cards are obviously brand new and you went out of your ****ing way to tell us where they came from as if that should somehow impress me or anyone else.
2:10 - Those awkward hands again. And yes, it is my card. Again, thank you Captain Obvious.
2:21 - You were in such a rush you nearly mangled the cards. Jesus, slow down and relax.

Stop making videos. Practice, perform, learn how to write a half-way decent script, and for god's sake learn to act. You are not going to show any significant improvement in 24 hours if your only audience is your ****ing webcam.

casey i dont have money i got paper engine and pocket erdanase i will wait till xmas when i get card college series i am serious but i have a better book rct(revolutionary card technice) sorry fo the typo its by ed marlo best 70$ i ever spent it has palms atuff like that its really great magic i read one trick a night from every book except rrtcm cause iv read it word for word when i got it just skipped one section flourishes and also i watch complete card magic and alot of E dvds cause t11 i dont think has dvd correct me if im wrong

Steer, I think you know what I'm saying. I'm using the term "family" to stand for us magicians.

There is no solidarity in the magic community. Magicians are predominantly a bunch of backstabbing narcissists.

It never hurts to at least TRY to carry out a more positive attitude once in a while. In the end it'll do the community more good than harm.

Give me something to be positive about. Most of you are trying so damn hard to act like everything is cool that you just frustrate the rest of us who would like to see things get done. When we challenge the status quo, we get spanked for it. That's why people jump ship.

I have decided to join the no punctuation family but I will continue to try and spell thinks correctly ( to the best of my ability ) I wasn't originally planning on doing this but the appeal of this new trend has finally gotten to me what do you guys all think I guess that if I continue to capitalize the words at the beginning of my "sentences" it wouldn't be too hard to figure out where one sentence ends and where one begins I must admit that this does save time and I can see toxtox towtowx towxtowx what is his name again why he does this revolutionary typing style everyone hop on this new typing trend train choo choo

Seriously kid, you don't even know how to hold a deck properly.

Put RCT, the Paper Engine and Erdnase down. Get Card College and Royal Road and actually READ them.

Learn to hold a deck of cards before you even think of learning how to palm. Watching you perform magic is like listening to a band running through a song for the first time, or watching an actor read through his lines the first time.

PRACTICE. Maybe when you can swing cut competently without tensing your whole damn body and slamming the two packets together like you're trying to kill a fly, post a video of your swing cuts. Forget trying to be magical without the means.

Get the tools before trying to build something.

Until then, please, don't bother us.

did it with a preformance for a spec want to see?

See, this is what I said why I did earlier. It all goes in one ear and out the other with this kid. He's not reading our critiques. He's just looking at his channel's traffic figures and patting himself on the back.

And no, I don't want to see the video. At this point, watching another one of your rushed, unrehearsed, unpracticed, amateurish performances would feel like the brainwashing procedure from A Clockwork Orange.

Towtox, I like your passion and your desire to be good. Try to understand that people here have been doing magic for a long time, and they have all been where you are now.

It is clear that you know some decent things, some basic fundamentals, however, they are just not ready for performance. This is true with any hobby. It takes time to go from book to practice, from practice to performance.

Here is one thing you can do. Carry a deck of cards in your hand whenever you walk around. Have a deck of cards in your hand when you are in a car. Just hold them. Do not necessarily try to practice your sleight of hand. First just let the cards become second nature to your hand.

It is like playing pool. I cannot teach someone to do crazy spin shots until they learn how to just hold the cue.

Continue to practice sleights when you sit down to practice magic, but at all other times, just hold onto cards. You will notice how much more comfortable you become doing basic actions like squaring up the pack and spreading the deck.

you know, if everyone simply boycotted his threads and videos, eventually he would just stop.... hopefully, and maybe in his free time he would actually learn to practice a little. At this point i dont think ANY resources are gonna help him cause i seriously doubt he has the patience to read more than a sentence. what he really needs to do, all he needs to do is sit down for the next few weeks, months even and just handle a deck until its actually a natural process, there is NO SUBSTITUTE for experience and contrary to this kids belief, you cant shortcut that.

Staying on topic:

You should know what you're going to say or don't say anything, I used to have a problem with this. But it'll get better when you get more comfortable performing for people (and cameras) So no "uh's" or "um's" or "okay's". You don't have to kill time before you start the trick unless you're telling a story. Either way, you don't need to do a million swing cuts, maybe a riffle shuffle. Spread the cards out if you're not going to force a card (or if you are going to force) it makes it look a lot more open. Don't mention breaks when performing, even when you're performing to magicians. It's like a stage magician going the extra mile to show that there's nothing gimmicky about his special contraption, when people probably weren't even thinking about it. But now since they are, they're going to think you're lying to them. Find a better way to get the card upside down. Don't mess up 5 times, people will lose interest. You obviously don't have Houdini's deck, nobody's going to believe that you do so don't even say that. You'd be better off just saying that it's a magic deck. That's pretty much it. You're going to need a little more practice. And I don't think 24 hours is a real break in my opinion. But that doesn't really matter too much. Practice it until you can do it blindfolded.

Doesn't De'vo offer some kind of hand exersize thing? That could help.

From what you said that you own as far as magic stuff (Paper Engine, EATCT etc.), you got in too deep too fast.

I would do this: go to Barnes and Noble or any other bookstore and buy Joshua Jay's Complete Course. It is a book AND a DVD. You will get a bit of everything (cards, coins, ordinary objects, mentalism etc.) and alot of the effects are super easy, some self working. It will also teach you a few flourishes and you will learn to properly hold a deck of cards.

I believe with that book/DVD combo (I believe it is $16?) you will be able to get your feet off the ground in magic, you will be able to perform some effects (with practice of course) and you will also get an idea of what type of magic you like best.

I lied, you can get the book/DVD on amazon for $12

Stiff hands aren't the only problem. Please read each post on this thread and Take our advice. Don't let it go in one ear and out the other. We're trying to help you and you hardly ever listen.

Do you have Joshua Jays Complete Course or Joshua Jays Book of Cards? If you have the complete course I suggest you toss aside all your other magic DVD's and books and STUDY the complete course. You will have a great starting foundation if you do

Wow... I wish I could convey everything I wanted to in text.

Here's my advice... Delete your Theory11 account, go study Royal Road, and don't even think about looking at Revolutionary Card Technique or any other book until you finish Royal Road. By finish, I mean actually read each word, take notes, and practice every sleight and effect in the book. Also, pay more attention in English class my friend.

Then, when you can actually conduct yourself like a competent person over an internet forum, rejoin Theory11.
