Hi, I am new to cardistry. Is shuffling bad for your cards? I see it tends to create spaces and bends within the cards. Will it affect my fanning? Thanks and best regards.

this happened regardless of doing cardistry or magic. it happends to everyone. i just bend the cards back so it's the same as the rest of the cards.

if all the cards are the same, it will not affect your fanning :) only thing that really affects fanning is the oil/sweat on your hands which makes them clump together

hope i helped :)

you could invest in a card clip to keep the cards flatter

take a look at those. they will help keep the cards flat
The Ellusionist custom card clips, which are not porper clips, will keep the box nice, but may allow some card warping
the Porper clips keep the cards flat, but tend to ruin the box more. I dont know much about the Vault, but check that too

Do a dribble befor you fan, It puts air between the cards making your fans beautiful. And you should shuffle to mix the oils from your hands into the cards evenly. Once a deck is broke in it will be much easier to handle, fan, and use.

How do you keep your hands from getting to oily or sweaty, that has been my problem

Nerves, stress, the weather, tons of factors will go into why people have sweaty/oily hands.

You can control it to some extent. One is being more confident. If you get nervous and find yourself in a sticky situation, completely dry hands will turn into sweaty hands. Keeping yourself cool, wear airy and appropriate clothing. This will apply to anything really, not just card handling.

There are remedies and antiperspirants specifically for the hands to try to cut down on how much you sweat. Success of these products will vary as I've had limited success with them.

Fanning isn't extremely affected by slightly bent cards. If you know how to do a pressure fan, the pressure fan will always push the cards against each other and you'll get the same fan every time.

When you're doing certain moves(springs, shuffles, cuts, etc), it'll bend the deck a bit in different sides and directions. Sometimes the bends get extreme and make a bow in the deck. Pressure fan, cut the deck, pressure fan, turn over the deck, pressure fan, cut the deck, pressure fan. This process if you repeat a few times will sort of remedy the extreme bends in the deck out. Try it out sometime.
