Can anyone offer suggestions on how to make my spring stay together. I can do the spring fairly well but it always seems to end up in a large messy pile with cards everywhere, not neat like it should be.

Do the spring and have your other hand ready to catch the spring in straddle grip. So, you do the spring and the cards land on your other hand and then you hold them in straddle grip.

You are further along than I am. I've been at it for two years and it still looks like crap lol

sort of progressing. I'm able to do it over about 6 cm now without having cards go everywhere

Don't relax your wrist, focus on rotating your wrist, and making your fingers point downward. Also, be sure your catching hand is not relaxed, but in mechanics grip, to increase your chances of catching them all.
