- I have a trick for you. Please think any number and do not say to me.
- Yes, I think. (I am thinking 78)
- Multiply that number by five.
- Allright. (It is 5x78=390)
- Now, add five.
- Adding five... (395)
- Multiply by two and say the sum to me.
- It is 790. (2x395)
- You thought seventy eight.
- Really!

To find the thought number, subtract 10 from the sum (for example it is 790-10=780), then delete last digit (0). Thought number is the first two digits of the sum (78).

If sum has four or more digits, then again subtract 10 from the sum and delete the last digit. Examples: If 7890 is said: 7890-10=788. If 13460 is said 13460-10=1345

This trick was taken from the puzzle book Üç Vezir Beş Kavuk (Three Viziers Five Turbans), published in 1962.
