We all know the classic part of an effect where the magician takes a card out of his deck and uses it as their card or as a "detective" to try and find the spectator's card. Generally, we as magicians ask "That's not your card, correct?". Another classic tactic used is the "I messed up" tactic, where we pretend to mess up. What if we were to mix the two? Do you guys think it would work if you ended up using the spectator's chosen card as the "detective", and making a routine out of it?

@Maaz Hasan, it is a good idea. John Bannon does something similar in Counterpunch (in Six.Impossible.Things. and High Caliber) in that the spectator selects an Ace and then the magician goes on to say that he will use the four aces to find the spectator's card. There also are a lot of plots where the indifferent card turns into the spectator's card, such as Ewephindit in Royal Road.

John Bannon calls this type of trick a "garden path" effect. I've been messing around with my own effect that does this.
