isolation hands off principle

Can anyone explain or recommend a book, website etc. that explains this principle?
I bought Luke Jermey's Seeing With the Fingertips and he mentions the principle, but does not explain it.

Somehow you read the face of the cards (red or black) with your fingertips. However, in phase 2 you do not touch the cards. The deck is face down in your hands and your fingertips are a few inches below the cards and you can accurately predict the color of the bottom card of the deck.

I'm not sure what you are asking for. What is the exact statement that you are looking for clarification regarding?

I would say the "hands off", "isolation" and "sense of touch" concepts are more plots than principles. That is, they describe what the spectator is seeing rather than methods.
