First, move the deck up parallel to the fingers and thumb. Your thumb holds the deck from flipping over your fingers and therefore creates an axis.

Tilt the deck to the left, it should be in the crotch of your thumb. Also notice the slight bevel of the deck to the right.

With your right thumb, start spreading the deck. Because of the pressure from your left thumb, the spread should move in a circular pattern. Because of the bevel of the deck, your right thumb is able to spread the whole deck, instead of leaving a stack at the end.

Also notice that if you position the deck higher or lower the size of the fan changes. If your thumb makes the axis at the edge, the fan will be big. If the thumb makes the axis closer to the middle, the fan is smaller, which is the principle of the diminishing deck routine.

Thanks MagicSpider...
but I found that when spreading with right thumb, I can't control the spread to be smooth and it will produce a lot of gaps in between...is it because the my poor skill or is it also related to the quality of the deck? (I am using a normal rider back bicycle...)

It is related a lot to the quality of the deck. Fanning powder helps. If it's bad enough you should simply get a new deck, break it in, and keep practicing.

You should also apply a small amount of pressure when spreading the deck.

Porper clips also increase the deck's lifespan.

And how's the shape of your fan?

Also, the pressure fan generally gives you a much more even fan. However it is often reguarded by some as the hardest fan and even flourish in the world and by other as "Eezy peezy".

I just can't fan the deck out, I can't produce a fan when evenly, some parts are very close, some parts are very further away...
