    Looking for Ring Magic

If you want 2 real nice workers for cheap money on the Wire, I highly recommend Ringature by Ed Ellis and also his Lift Off and Twistration. Yes, he is my mentor, but I love these effects and use both regularly. Check them out and see what you think. Garrett Thomas's material is great too.

    Vapr

I was thinking the same thing Bizarro, maybe an ace bandage or that flexible wrap that athletes and doctors use that sticks to itself. Nice suggestion.

    Close-Up Standing Ovation

Toby, Thanks for the idea / tip, but I will also mention that I have worked tons of restaurant gigs and have gotten loud applause, cheering, clapping, gasps, etc. but I don't think I would try to get standing ovation from a table of two or four people. That might seem a bit odd. To me it...

    christmas magic

Christopher and Steer are both correct. #1 you are cutting it way close to be performing something you haven't even put together yet #2 Think of effects that you can do already comfortably and "adapt" them to Christmas Example: Hippity Hop Rabbits, Take this idea and make a Hippity Hop Santa...

    Your Thousand Timer

I've never heard it either so it is new terminology to me as well.

    Card in Magician

Wow Craig. That is very interesting and I know you are probably looking for who would have leaked that info but I assure you it wasn't me. I hold no position any where other than moderating these boards nor do I have any connection with any crew members. I can only imagine your frustration.

    Invisible deck

Jay Sankey used to do a bit that I started doing about 5 years ago where he actually took a black thick marker and had put big black X's on all of the cards on one side and left the reverse side cards alone. Depending on which card the spectator selected, there was some patter about taking out...

    Invisible deck

I highly recommend you buy an invisible deck, learn how to use it and then later on down the road start making your own using Testor's dull cote. It is probably one of the most mind blowing effects for a layman and is also a great "out" for messing up a card effect.

    French Kiss

Even though I refuse to put props / cards in my mouth that is funny and I'm glad that bit adds to your routine. Thanks for sharing that. I've just had too many experiences where spectators have not been happy seeing a card go into or come out of a mouth...especially when hands have touched both...

    Poster for my theater show...

Okay, I'll throw my two cents in. Personally I like the side shot because it makes Luis look a bit mysterious, however all of the points brought up are valid. People like to associate a face and a name and even better if there is a prop from the show included as well in the promotional...

    Pure Smoke vs. VAPR

I think VAPR basically took all of the weaknesses of Pure Smoke and turned them into strong points which is great marketing. E knew this and knew if they didn't come up with a price drop and offer a DVD they were dead in the water. Personally I think VAPR looks sweet and would be cool to use...

    problem with no solution!

The problem does have a solution, but probably not one you are going to want to hear or believe. There is no need to keep buying more effects and to keep impressing the "same" college kids or audiences over and over again. Do NOT become the performing monkey as most of us have tried to be at...

Carl Cloutier & Brian Q Quinn Brothers?

For those of you who watch impractical jokers this is kind of funny. I was leafing through a 1995 Genii tonight and couldn't help but notice that magician Carl Cloutier resembles Brian Q Quinn from Impractical Jokers a lot.

David Blaine Real or Magic Discussion.

Toby I hope you didn't think my comment was directed at you because it definitely was not. I have a lot of respect for you and know that you are a working magician. It was more towards the younger guys who will go buy an effect that was on the special, take it out of the box that day and hit the...

David Blaine Real or Magic Discussion.

I completely understand what you are saying Craig. This happens every time there is a magic special on TV. I think it is just the excitement that most of these youngsters get seeing the reactions David is getting. They think if they shell out the cash and grab up the same effects it will produce...

    Reflections - Helder Guimaraes

Most magicians who have written their own book normally do keep some quantity at their residence and will even sign them to you if you ask nicely. It's worth a shot.

Need Advice on Attracting a Crowd/Busking

Are you entertaining the patrons who are "waiting" to be seated or are you entertaining the entire crowd that is in the restaurant. I guess I am a little confused. Also be careful where you booth / stand is set up as you do NOT want to be in a high traffic area that cuts off the paths of...

Biggest problem you've had when performing?

I can think of 2 major ones that made me look horrible. One was under my control and the other was not. I could probably write a book on half of my stories both good and bad...ha ha. 1.) I'm 15 minutes into an outdoor birthday party show, with a huge crowd, weather was decent but nothing to...
