    Starting Mentalism

Mine and, dare I speak on his behalf, D ICE R's opinions on this matter have been repeated, and are readily available in many similar threads.

    Wayne Houchin Purchase

Well, ultimately, it's your choice. If the collector's edition appeals to you, then get it. There will always be people on either side of the argument who claim that special editions are or aren't worth it. To put it another way, I have a scarf that often is worth more than everything else I am...

    which is stronger?

What is the point of tearing and restoring the piece of paper? Why are you doing this? That should give you the answer you need.

The most influential dvd set ever released...

The problem is that he doesn't execute the moves exactly like Erdnase described at all. It has been well documented that Wesley James has made more than a forgivable amount of errors in performing Erdnase. Don't confuse the two - that is what James looks like, not what Erdnase looks like!

Drawing Room Deceptions - Detailed Review

I'm not a card magician any more, but I will say regarding difficulty that they pretty much run the gamut from relatively easy to extremely difficult - there is one piece called The Penetration of Four Cards Through a Jacket (guess what happens in the trick) that I consider the hardest piece of...

Pick a card; now I will begin swaying back and forth. Huzah!

Fair enough about his performance style, but it doesn't say much about him as a performer, or even his sleights, some of which left a fair bit to be desired... Now, I don't want anyone to feel that I am unfairly targeting Gazzo - but in the context of the conference, I think it was by far the...

Pick a card; now I will begin swaying back and forth. Huzah!

I was really rather disappointed with Gazzo. I've heard so many rumours about how his performing style clashes with how most people would recommend one performs, and about how he pulls it off, and saw absolutely nothing of worth except what not to do. I laughed at all the comments from people...

Pick a card; now I will begin swaying back and forth. Huzah!

Oh, and incidentally, on that note: The blinking habit is almost always created by practicing too much in front of a mirror. Of course, we can see the sleights being performed. Take the try to practice against a wall.

What kind of move did you invent?

I "discovered" the exact application of the gimmick used in Postmentalism. My bad. I also "discovered" a coin sleight which, lo and behold, was put in print by a well known mentalist about a month later. Awesome.

Pick a card; now I will begin swaying back and forth. Huzah!

Yeah, it happens. I see it a lot in public speaking and debating in particular, as well as magic. It's just something you have to try and conquer through experience. Mick Jagger may well get the shakes still - but he does a damn good job when he gets out on stage, doesn't he? :)

What website offers online card magic tutorials?

Since you're new, you may not know this, so I'll keep it brief. It is considered unethical to download, view, or otherwise learn from resources that are sold for money, but that you did not pay for. In other words, barring books that have passed into public domain, and releases that are offered...

    Acr

It's not the phases that make the ACR interesting, it's the presentation that you give. Personally, I stay away from 14 phase ACRs. But if you're Gazzo, and have apparently little to no skill in anything at all, then it may suit you (if you didn't get the reference, forget I said that :P)...

    2CM learning tool?

Kard Klub was one of the very few E dvds I liked and thought was even close to being worth the money. I, like many, had the misfortune of having E as my first magic source. My bad. Although I don't agree with some of what is taught, it's a step in the right direction.

    Rubber Transposition

On an interesting sidenote (more interesting, I personally think, than the effect shown), I did a piece of theatre last year regarding the origin of the Twinkie Defense, which of course the Chewbacca Defense on South Park parodies. Incidentally, that was a great episode.

    how many tricks ?

That is in my opinion a much better way to think about tricks! Think about them in terms of routines. Think about them as a pool of effects, that you can vary according to the demands of the performance, and to other more important factors such as time!

    Rubber Transposition

-If you know it flashes, why is it still up? I can never understand why some people are content with mediocrity. Take some pride in what you do! -Sleights were appalling. 0:24 - 0:30 in particular were shockingly bad. I believe it was Simon Aronson who said that there is a great difference...

    how many tricks ?

No, of course not for strolling. I'm simply making the point that "x-y number of tricks" is meaningless. Telling me three to four tricks can result in, technically, a performance which is anything from 5 minutes to 90 minutes long. When working strolling, the issue is not number of tricks, but...

    Business Card Criticism

I agree with you, but there are some significant and good reasons to use business card effects... Easy way to get business cards to your spectators. Used well, it provides another incentive for them to keep it, beyond simply liking you. More likely to be shown to other people and thus spread...
