The Essentials - Coming May 2009

I wholeheartedly agree. In fact, these were exactly my thoughts - when I first read your post, I was in a rush, therefore I did not post. It sounds like a good idea and can benefit a great number of beginners.

    When did you start?

To make a long story short, I was 9 or ten when I first learned/performed (for my family, of course - from the book 101 Card Tricks Without Sleight Of Hand, John Scarne). Since then, my interest in magic has peaked and faded; about a year and a half ago I decided I was going to get serious...

    "Magik" pick up lines?

Steerpike, you always seem to have the same perspective on most subjects as I do. If you're using magic to ATTEMPT to hit on the opposite gender, please note: - YOU'RE PATHETIC. - MAGIC IN AND OF ITSELF IS NOT A TURN ON. - YOU'RE A RETARD FOR TRYING. - USE YOUR PERSONALITY, NOT THE MAGIC...

    Routine this, close that

I would consider using Travelling Aces / Invisible Palm as your closer. If it's fitting with the rest of your routine. Other than that, maybe use a deck vanish, leaving the four aces - there are several methods to do this impromptu, all you need is a little misdirection, if you catch my drift.

    Pressure Disclaimer?

Absolutely. I actually sharpen my cards using the CardSharp model SX110 IS. It gives that "razor-like" feel to the cards - I've lost a few fingers, unfortunately... :/ In response to the OP, and in suggestion to the entire community: - Pull out your balloon. - "You aren't allergic to...

    Mentalism - Zap

I was wondering if Zap is worth the money. I'm looking into mentalism, and already have a few books lined up to purchase (any suggestions you have would be appreciated as well); Is Zap worth the money - is it really "the best"? What kind of applications are there to using it? E.g., is it...

    Cheap Bicycle Decks

Kardwell.com has some great products, but absolutely terrible customer service. I ordered an item from them on March 10. First off, I'm paying $25 for shipping for an item less than 6 pounds. Secondly, I only receieved an order confirmation email, directly after submitting the order. On...

Prove to me that you are a performer.

Which venues do you perform in? For free performances, you can catch me at the mall, school at times, restaurants, or local hangout areas. As for my paid gigs, I have performed at: House/private parties (including two children's birthday parties), restaurant walkarounds, corporate events. What...

    Transpo: comments please

I was trying to tell you what to do while throwing off people who might think they know what's going on -_-. That's why I said "double", lol. And as for that - if it happens often - I would suggest changing where your place the card to pivot it... If you get that. TCCP - try and execute it...

    Transpo: comments please

I like it. You need to work on the placement from tenkai into spinning the double - it was rather visible. If you make the whole transition smoother, without stopping, I think it would work out nicely. As soon as you smooth out your cover pass as well, I think you've got a pretty good transpo...

    The Capitulating Aces

Nice performance. My only advice is to work on the display of the last and final ace - you placed the other aces on the table in a blatantly different manner, and the way you handled the last ace could possibly arouse suspicion to the wary spectator's eyes...

    1 minute

    - Unnecessary, crappy handling. - You do too many sandwich effects. - This is not nearly original. - Tokyo is right, your floor does look nice. - Stop "creating" tricks. You aren't coming up with original sleights nor tricks, and you aren't practicing anything enough anyways. Remove most of...

Who do you do magic for?

When I'm out and about, I usually only take a deck of cards with me- therefore, I perform mostly for teenagers and adults (including young adults and the elderly). A lot of card tricks are harder to follow for younger children - the plot line, at the very least, if not the actual illusions. I...
