Cutting the Deck EXACTLY in half

I don't know any methods as such, but like Baguette says, it's a skill you'll pick up without realising over time.

    Magic movies ?

Magicians. It's Mitchell and Webb, always a safe bet.

Derren Brown's Pure Effect and Absolute Magic?

Both his magic books, Pure Effect and Absolute Magic, are outstanding reads that have completely changed my approach to magic. I don't use any of the tricks themselves in Pure Effect (although he has some tidy pieces in there), but the way he talks about turning tricks into magic is spot on. If...

    Magic doesn't get me laid.

    Well played sir. Well played.

How do you express your character?

That sounds like an excellent plan. You might not need every characteristic in every script, necessarily, but have a go and see what feels right. Let us know how you get on.

How do you express your character?

Good luck. If you can pick out the bits that worked last time, your presentation will gradually refine itself. Have another look at the jokes that didn't work like as you'd expected and keep tweaking it until it fits you.

How do you express your character?

Perhaps it was that the performance felt unnatural. I'm assuming you only had a day or two to practice them there. Was it certain lines/jokes that didn't seem to work, or were they just not receptive to the performance overall? Could you film a trick for us, so we can get a better idea of what...

    No Experience

My friend and I got our first gig by walking into a restaurant, asking to see the manager and acting like we knew what we were doing. The third place we visited gave us a trial night, then took us on weekly.

    A cry for help

Mate, I know these feels so much. I'm actually just back off a three year hiatus from magic. I'd been performing a weekly paid restaurant gig for a few months when I just lost the passion. Performing felt like a chore, I wasn't happy with my patter but couldn't fix the problems and had other...

How do you express your character?

This is true if you want your character to be an extension of yourself. When performing close-up, I am basically performing as myself (perhaps a slightly overconfident and bigger version of myself, but myself nonetheless). However I have done parlour shows as a variety of different characters in...

    What do I do?

There are some free cardistry downloads in the Wire. I've been out of cardistry for a good two/three years, so I can't make any recommendations, although I'm sure someone else can. I'd probably start there though. Just spend a bit of time practicing flourishes along with your magic. It's...

    Patter Help

That's it. If you only look up during the sleight, the spectators' attention won't shift. The cards should be treated as a secondary object. Half the battle is done long before you're doing any mischief - if you're directing your audience well, you've already won. I'd recommend watching Derren...
