Top Ten card tricks to master

Surprised no one has mentioned a cards across yet. I feel this is one of the most powerful effects in my arsenal. If you can make your audience believe that both spectators have received 10 cards each, when you get to the reveal you can see the stunned reactions on their faces because you didn't...

I think Sankey fooled Penn and Teller

I remember Penn telling some guy on the show once that (and I'm paraphrasing here, cause I don't remember the exact words) "in magic, we cheat. Today you've cheated better than us." In this case, I think Sankey cheated better than anyone. He knew his audience and he knew how to play his...

    Wilson's Revolution

It does hurt a little at first while practicing, but it shouldn't be overly painful. He jokes about "bleeding" in the video, but if there's blood then I think you're doing something WRONG. It's one of my favorite things to play with...it does seem like showing off a little bit...especially if...

    Learning sleight of hand

I'd say 1 at a time, but....I feel it's always better to learn the slight in the context of an effect. Nothing wrong with learning new slights, but if you have no application for the slight, then what was the purpose of learning that slight? Just to learn it?

    What is Magic?

I think you missed the point... or maybe I'm missing yours, I'm not sure. For me, magic isn't the effect. Magic, at least true magic, is the impression you leave behind on people. It's why I do what I do and why I continue to hone and perfect my craft...because I want more people to know that...

    What is Magic?

This exact question was presented to me recently and it really made me stop and think. I went over the possible answers I could relay and the only one that really appealed to me was this one... "You know that feeling you get after I've shown you a really great effect where you have no idea how...

    Favorite Magic Trick?

My favorites change all the time. If forced to pick just a few I think right now I'd go with: 1. My version of David Regal's Everywhere. I absolutely love this effect when I actually have the time to perform it. (it can get lengthy) 2. Bill Malone's Think Touch Turn. While I absolutely love...

I think Sankey fooled Penn and Teller

Definitely agree with this. I was shocked when Regal was announced and then he decided to do that performance. Not that it's a bad effect, it's great, it's hilarious; but it's not something I would have chosen for this particular show being that you're trying to fool Penn and Teller. So many...

Royal Road to Card Magic vs. The Expert At The Card Table.

Usually this question is asked by beginners and I'll immediately say Royal Road as the Erdnase book is a bit more advanced and you should start learning the basic moves before you move onto some of the stuff included in Expert at the Card Table. However, since you're not a beginner I'd say...

Do people still like card tricks?

You have to make people care about the cards....otherwise, they're just cards and noone REALLY cares about just cards. The cards themselves are just a prop, and if you're trying to make the cards themselves the whole show then I suspect most people are going to be bored. It's the art of giving...

    Inspiration and the Creative Process

I personally get my inspiration from watching other performers. I maybe see a routine and think to myself "I like that, but what if I added this here or that there...or maybe I can take this out completely and add this instead." and I'll work from there. Either that or I'll think up things that...

    "Best" close-up / street card-magic tricks?

Best is subjective, we all have our favorite effects that we love to perform, but calling any one "the best" is going a bit out there. That being said the ones I perform most often are as follows: Another vote for the Biddle trick. Simple slight, but it always tends to get great reactions. For...

    What's your "quickie" trick?

So, maybe you're in a rush for something and you don't have time to do a full fledged routine like oh...let's say Oil and Water or a multi-phase ACR, instead you need something quick and simple, but something that's still going to make an impact. My question is what is that trick for you...

    Memory Magic

I seem to remember Binary Code being about the colours, not the actual suit/value of the cards. I say your best bet for a whole deck is some form of Memorized stack. I personally use the Aronson stack, but any memorized stack of 52 cards would work, I suppose. As for memorizing the order of a...

    Essential Card Magic Effects

I'm of the opinion that there's not really any absolutely essential effects that should be learned. There are those that will be stronger than others based on your own presentation style, but as for absolutely essential...I just don't feel like there's anything that anyone absolutely should HAVE...

Advice on progressing as a card conjurer.

What I'll usually do (and keep in mind this is just what works for me, and it may not work for everyone) is I'll keep a notebook of stuff that I've seen and possibly like to learn and I'll keep that separate from the notebook of stuff I'm practicing now. Once I'm sure I've got whatever it is I'm...

I'll second Ring Leader by Gregory Wilson. Love this material.

    Troy Street Magic

The drawbridge trick at the end of the first episode screamed editing trick/false audience to me. Now I could be wrong and I'd love to be, but I just don't see how that's possible without the aid of camera effects.

    help with street magic

I'm just quoting the last part here because I think this is the most important. Street magic is a great thing when done right, but it's those people who will just grab anyone and immediately start doing a trick without even introducing themselves or getting to know their audience that I think...

    Pressure card trick

Not sure why you would use pressure in this situation since there are multiple ways of loading a card in a balloon...especially if you're going to force the card anyway. And if we're going that route I'd use Kevin James' Animated Card Thru Balloon of Death (if you don't know, look it up)
