Since nobody has mentioned it so far, I would suggest you look up some of Daniel Madisons stuff: http://www.danielmadison.co.uk/ He tackles both cards and some mentalism too so I guess it may fit your style.

Hm have you tried doing it on your palm instead of your arm? Normally the skin on the palm isnt quite as dark as on your arm even if you tan a lot. I dont know how it is in your case of course.
