Dimitri Arleri uses the technique a lot in his cardistry video Opera. There a re a lot of cool ideas you can get to that, and the buck twins have a spinning table double that i believe is in their twothousandandten lecture notes. But yeah, the mechanics are pretty simple.

Dan and Dave bucks book Organic directly address's this topic, and encourages development of improvisational skills to make effects seem more off the cuff, and therefore magical. Its a great read, It has a few effects in it to show how it can work, i think its available in pdf on their website.
