Death to the Double Undercut // 1-on-1

Frank Simon and Earl Nelson published something almost identical to this in Versatile Card Magic Revisited as "The Pirandello Double Undercut".

Is there a too perfect rule?

The too perfect theory (theory, not rule) has nothing to do with an effect or method being "too good", it has to do with the psychology and thinking of what your audience sees. A good example of the too perfect theory coming into play would be doing a card to box with a force and a duplicate...

Aaron and Wayne Shooting in Chico!

I'd like to see some NEW ideas, or at least things that were original at one time, and may have been published; not "Theory 11 guy spoon feeds kids things that are already in print because they're too lazy to read and practice". All of the things you mentioned, the "basics", and "essentials"...

    1on1 - threeFry released

I don't remember ever saying the products weren't good; probably because I didn't. What I said was that in the month and a half that theory 11 built it's internet hype machine, it hammered home the assertion that this was "a revolution", and that "everyone is doing the same tricks", but not...

    1on1 - threeFry released

Not really. As someone who constantly praises Kenner's book, you should know that this is almost exactly long gone silver (Three Fry without the coppers), the last production is the only thing that's changed, and the absence of the wand. Why they changed the name is beyond me. Just another...

    Liquify: Ultimate Card Thru Table

I think it's fake, or at least the claims you're making aren't true. I can see the original signed card mis-aligned under the spread, and the writing on the card that end up under the table is clearly different than the "original card".

Panic, 4for4 (i think), Card Change

Well, as you've already illustrated better than I can, alot of the time you don't learn it correctly. Secondly, I think that at this point, almost everything magic related that I know is somewhere on my bookshelf (all of which was obtained legitimately), or had been shown to me by the person...

Cylinder and Coins- and where the good stuff is!

What on earth gave you the idea that playing cards aren't used as much anymore? The World Series of Poker has, by itself, launched poker and card games in general into the public eye moreso than they've ever been in the past. As for the old silver coins, that is unfortunately true. They've...

Panic, 4for4 (i think), Card Change

I would pull back the reigns a little bit. I think "illegitimately" is a better word.

    Houdini or Erdnase?

You're absolutely right. However, this was 1902, and things were different. For one thing, it's overwhelmingly likely that Erdnase was not aware that this method had been published elsewhere, for a variety of reasons. Secondly, not everything in Expert was created by Erdnase himself. Many of...

    Houdini or Erdnase?

Regardless, it was published before Erdnase. According to an old Vernon lecture video, the difference between Erdnase's "Two handed transformation ; first method", and the change credited to Houdini, is the way in which they're performed. Specifically, the Houdini change was written up as a...

Panic, 4for4 (i think), Card Change

I think any name that is just two variations of the word, with one inbetween will suffice. Even within Totally Out of Control there are contradictions. The title of the move is "For4For", but in the write-up of "Diet" and in Magic Man Examiner 1, it's written as "for four for". It's all good.

    Three Fly

...Kainoa Harbottle (if you're feeling frisky), David Neighbors, Gary Kurtz, Geoffrey Latta, Nathan Kranzo, Jonathan Townsend... The list goes on. Quite a few of them are similar in mechanics, but they all have something to add.

    Three Fly

Chris Kenner's version was published in Totally Out of Control as "Menage Et Trois", as well as a separate booklet called "3 fly". It's ungaffed, and is unique in it's mechanics. Paul Wilson's version is also ungaffed, and it's mechanics are closer to what the bulk of 3-fly routines use...

I don't understand why there is a difference between doing a pass invisibly, and doing it fast. Can an "invisible" pass not be fast? And by Invisible, do you mean you cannot see the two halves transpose? Or do you mean that there is absolutely nothing to indicate that anything happened...

    To Chris Kenner

I agree with what you said Matt. "You don't need the pass to be super fast and invisible if you have the proper misdirection skills". That's not what the other guy said. He said, flat out, without exception, that "The pass isn't a move meant to be fast, it is meant to be a utility move done...

Panic, 4for4 (i think), Card Change

When a magician publishes something, they expect you to acquire whatever it's published in by ethical means. If you published an original move, would you be happy if one person paid for your notes, and showed the move to a hundred other people who didn't pay? Or in this case, if you posted a...

Thanks Mitchell! I'm glad that a teenager without a top notch pass is here to tell us how the pass should and shouldn't be used! I'm sure people like S.W. Erdnase, Derek Dingle, Fred Robinson, Charlie Miller, Paul Chosse, and many others who all preach that developing speed is a critical factor...

Panic, 4for4 (i think), Card Change

Oh grow up. What he meant is that you obviously don't know the names of the techniques, meaning that you do not own the corresponding literature, which in turn means that you're basically stealing material.
