Never say "You're wrong." - Dale Carnegie

Another thing magicians do occasionally is say, "Let me show you how it works." Do you really believe anybody in the room believes that you are going to teach them? It insults there intelligence. Also what sounds better: "What I want you to do is shuffle the deck."...

Never say "You're wrong." - Dale Carnegie

This is a great point Rick! I was recently reading Devious Standards by Jamy Ian Swiss, and in his JS Rules of Magic section, one of the rules is, Never Challenge a Spectator. He used the same example of two in one hand, one in pocket. I love the line in the book, "How many have I got now...

    Good walk around effects

I steal the deck from my back pocket with my left hand when I lean down to reach for the coin with my right. If I'm surrounded I either don't do it, or I have the audience come around to the front so they can see the coin appear, which distracts them from the deck steal.

    I need some help.

I strongly recommend a Genii subscription, Aaron Fishers Paper Engine, Devious Standards by Jamy Ian Swiss.

I second that, half of Jays effects seem like he has only done them once for his mom.

What are your top 3 effects to perform?

Wow I have so many favorites. I guess I'll narrow it down to: 1. Lennart Greens Card in Shoe. It is VERY fun to perform and it hits HARD 2. Cheeky Triumph. A stunning color changing triumph. It uses a trick deck, but I'll do what it takes to astonish. Genii July 2011 3. Card Bite. My own...

I don't own this, but knowing Jason England it is probably great. http://www.theory11.com/tricks/foundations-volume-two.php

    Whose Tricks Are These?

The only place I could find The Magic of Eddie Fechter was Magic Methods. The site was weird and as I scrolled down, the font got bigger. Have any of you guys ordered from there, I'm a little skeptical of the site.

    Magic Shops in California

Grand Illusions is great. The owners are awesome and very nice. Aaron Fisher, Wayne Houchin, and Lee Asher have all stopped by there quite a few times. They have great lectures too. I have seen Michael Ammar, Wayne, Andrew Mayne, and Jon Allen lecture there. It's in Sacramento.

    Whose Tricks Are These?

Hi guys, I was thinking about two card tricks that everyone performs. The Two Card Monte, and ACR. Does anybody know who created the 2CM that most magcians perform today. So many DVDs and books teach it, but whose is it? Also, many magicians have made moves and had variations of the...

    True Astonishments..?

I like TA better than the books by a hair, and the material is more advanced. Most of it takes set up and sometimes extra items.

    Ace Assembly for my friend.

His double lift is fine. To a spectator it wouldnt look wired at all. Even if you have one of the best double lifts, a magician will KNOW it is a double lift most the time, but might not actually SEE it split or something.

    The Darker Side of Magic

The only thing magic SHOULD be is YOU. If you are a dark person, make your magic dark to fit you. If you are a funny joking person, you would look like an idiot trying to be dark. Try to picture Gazzo being dark, you can't. He isn't a dark person. If you are a classy person, you might like...

    Ace Assembly for my friend.

I like the idea of having the aces go one at a time instead of placing 3 cards on top of the ace of spades immediately. I liked the surprise ending a lot. At the end you emphasize the Ace of hearts maybe a little to much, which might make a spectator wonder why that ace is shown a couple times...

This is so fun to watch

The Vernon wand spin vanish done by the man himself. I know how it is done, but he amazes me every time because of how well he does it. I could watch it all day, thought you guys should see it if you haven't. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY29B-HEJnI

Masterfile or An Extension of Me?

I loved Masterfile. His material is very different, so you need to adapt it to your style. He has some great card effects in there. Including an awesome Out of This world effect. Make sure you get the two decks that come with it. This site doesn't mention the decks, so I don't know for...

    Magic Books

Stars of Magic is great, it has some gems like Dai Vernons classic Triumph routine and Triple Coincidence. But the magic is definetely old style magic, and there will probably be several routines you won't even perform. It is a great book and piece of history though.

    Magic Books

I recently read Devious Standards by Jamy Ian Swiss, and it is one of the best books I have read in a while. It is all on magic theory, which is essential in magic. It can apply to any type of magic. There is a big section about the double lift that I enjoyed. There is an excerpt of it in...

What up with all the CA haters?

People bash on other people. It's part of life. If you don't like it ignore it. Be the bigger person.
