    One Trick Decks

I think one or two gimmick decks is fine, but you should always have a regular deck and know some tricks with that too. Perhaps the quote is referring to someone who only does one trick - with a gimmick deck? If that is the case then I kinda agree. If not then its a bit ridiculous and puritan...

    RK Change !

In hindsight I see that you are referring to "cardistry" in your name, so perhaps much of what I say does not apply, if that is what you are trying to do, as opposed to card magic. But this is the card magic forum!

    RK Change !

Put it into a trick, there is no point showing a change as a stand alone thing. Its not that impressive (I don't mean that in a derogatory sense, I mean I appreciate the skill etc. but doing any sleight on it's own is no way near as impressive as making it magical). Make a trick surrounding it...

Erdnase's Two Handed Shift (Getting the pinky in)

Thanks for the responses, I've been working on ways to injog cards as a means of control, simply because it works really well. You can move your fingers freely and even table the cards in between, so you can leave as much time as you want between the injog and the cut or however else you want to...

Erdnase's Two Handed Shift (Getting the pinky in)

What other methods would you recommend learning for controlling a single card?

Erdnase's Two Handed Shift (Getting the pinky in)

I'll bear that in mind. I tend to stick to an overhand shuffle control if I am showing tricks to someone because I can do that whilst looking anywhere - I keep my pass practising for behind the scenes right now.

Erdnase's Two Handed Shift (Getting the pinky in)

Yes it was indeed. Sorry I was rather tired when I wrote this. I've also heard that practising the shift with two decks rather than one will help as it will then make handling the one deck really light and smooth in comparison. Has anyone tried this? I had a go yesterday, but it seems I just...

    original trick

Nice trick, I have seen a similar effect performed with 2 decks, but I've not seen a version using two halves of 1 deck. One thing I did notice at the start of the trick was that you kept flashing the bottom card. I'm not sure whether there is a reason for this or not. I figured probably not...

    Some Sleights

Indeed, I'd recommend picking up a pack and giving it a regular shuffle until you are satisfied that it is shuffled - this is what you want your false shuffles to look like - nothing more. It can be tempting to try to make a big deal out of a particular sleight that you have learned, because...

Erdnase's Two Handed Shift (Getting the pinky in)

In Expert at the Card Table Erdnase describes the start position for his two handed shift thus: From the illustration its clear that the little finger is intended to be slid inside the cut, rather than just a small piece of it's flesh making the break - as in a regular pinky break. My...

    A Trick Concept (feedback wanted)

I have been practising sleights and techniques for a while and I thought I'd put them together in an as yet unnamed trick. It's got a couple of aspects of the ambitious card routine in it, although it differers in some respects. Okay, so here's how it goes: 1. Ask the spectator to select a...

    Some Sleights

Wow some excellent stuff going on there! I'd love to see some videos of you incorporating that into some tricks! I don't intend to sound too harsh, but I think there are a few issues with this, and I intend this as sincere, constructive criticism. Firstly I think you make a bit of a meal out...

    Portal!

Ah I see, but I wonder what reaction were trying to get from the contrast? My personal reaction was one of slight bewilderment. Maybe it has something to do with the transition between the patter and the trick? If you could make some kind of joke about the irrelevance of what you just said to...

    Portal!

I don't quite see how the patter fits with the trick... It was just like you were having a conversation and then were like, oh and by the way here's a trick. Which isn't really patter in the sense that I understand it. Having said that though, your trick was excellently done, just maybe try...

Best place to start learning Mentalism?

As this is in the card magic forum, I thought I'd explain a couple of good ways to do mentalism card tricks (which may or may not be the same kind of mentalism you desire to learn, but I'll throw it out there nonetheless). Being able to force a card is probably the best way for a beginner to do...

    gaffs

I think the best gaff cards should be undetectable. I mean there are some cool effects that you can do with cards that have half a face half back on them etc, but these effects shatter to pieces if your spectator asks to see the deck, or even if you aren't careful whilst shuffling and squaring...

Getting a break under the top card

I've been practising the method of getting a break under the top card (I'm not sure of the specific name) in which you distract the spectator with your free hand, do a wrist kill, slide of the top card with your thumb and lift it slightly to get a break under it. The problem I'm finding is...

    Handling and Handedness Confusion

Hello, I have been practising card magic for a few months now, but I have noticed a rather strange problem with my handedness. Naturally I am right handed (I write with my right hand etc.), and I understand that as a right handed person I should grip the deck in my left hand and perform any...
