Which magician do you love to hate?

Like several others, I don't like the basic premise of this thread, but it did capture my attention. Instead of ignoring it, though, I want to come to the defense of Brad and E. First E. Sure E sells a lot of overpriced DVDs and instant downloads, but so does Theory11, Penguin, and all of the...

    Five Speed - Chris Kenner

I'll take it one step further. I'll ask them if they know how to do an OH shuffle and them give them a demo before handing them the cards and asking them to do exactly that. That will probably work most of the time, even if they know how to riffle shuffle.

    Five Speed - Chris Kenner

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but this trick, as beautiful and awesome as it is when it works, has a flaw that makes me doubt that I'll use it anymore. :( After the card is selected, you return the deck to the spectator to shuffle. Everything works perfectly if they do an overhand...

    Card tricks for 50 spectators

No cameras. I think the room is a typical highschool gymnasium.

    Card tricks for 50 spectators

I've been doing card magic for about a year. I'm a pretty decent amateur with a pretty large arsenal of sleights that I can do reasonably well, including passes, double lifts, false shuffles/cuts, fluorishes, and a variety of forces and controls. And I have roughly 25 card routines that I can...

    Five Speed Out

I agree. It's best to put those 4 cards out of harm's way, depending on how you have the spectator select their card. I have them select it from a spread, so I'd put the spades near the top of the deck and just don't spread that region. Good suggestion. :D spike

    Five Speed Out

That's true. They can only really pick one of the other 4, but I'd have a tough time pattering my way rapidly thru the 5-to-9 of spades. But anything is possible with practice. However, I think the other suggestion is better, just revealing the selected card and using 5-speed later - or not at...

    Five Speed Out

Great Trick! But what do you suggest doing if the spectator randomly selects one of the 5 cards you need for the 2nd part of the effect? It may be a rare event, but it will happen roughly 16% of the time by chance if the deck is shuffled before starting the trick. Of course you would find out...

    Clean-up for 5 Speed

Thanks! That's exactly what I was asking, and now I have an answer.

    Favorite ACR ending?

If CardToImpossibleLocation is such a poor ending, how do you explain the success of Tommy Wonder's ACR, where it ends up in his ring box? His ending works so well because of the way he changes the narrative, claiming that if you like the trick so much, he'll explain it to you. Sure, his...

    Clean-up for 5 Speed

So that card is forever 'special'? I'm not so worried about the immediate aftermath of the trick. I'm more concerned whether that card might gum up the next trick I perform. Sorry to be so vague. I'm trying to protect the secret of the trick.

    Passes

All passes are angle sensitive, but some more than others. Even relatively obvious passes, like the classic pass, are essentially invisible if you are either moving your hands (e.g., right-to-left) when you do it or else create some misdirection (e.g., ask the spectators a question) while it...

    Clean-up for 5 Speed

What I'm asking (without spilling the beans) is whether that card can be returned to normal condition, for example by rubbing it magically in just the right spot.

    Clean-up for 5 Speed

I just purchased Chris Kenner's 5-speed, and I have a question. When you finish the trick, how do you 'clean up' the 5 of spades?
