Use a nickel...that should solve your problem. Admittedly a nickel doesn't seem quite as natural as a quarter and it may take away from the illusion a bit for you as the magician, but the spectators will not care.

Thread is extremely easy to hide in your mouth, but if you wanted to swallow it I dont think it will harm you at all. I'm not a doctor, but I cant imagine why eating a thread or two would be dangerous.

I usually give them a second or two to watch my hands, at that point they're waiting for the trick to happen. Then I just drop the deck to my side and look them in the eye, this gets them to stop focusing on the deck and look at me. This is probably my favorite trick to do because it floors...

The specatator may think that you touched the card depending on what angle they have. If you do it right and put in the practice (like with any trick) it will look really good. If the specator thinking you touched the corner is your only hang up, I reccomend you buy it.
