Hi, this is my first post, sorry for my english! :)
I decided to start with the card magic with royal road, I've got the first Card College but for an absolute beginner like me is a bit difficult... I've got a couple of question about two paragraphs in Royal Road...

a) "Retaining the Top and Bottom Cards in Position" and "Top Card to Next to the Bottom and Back to the Top"... Are the same sleight? The description of each step is different but in the end are the same... Or not?
b) Why on the second shuffle I must retain the top and the bottom card again? If with the first shuffle I've got the top card next to the bottom card with the second shuffle I retain the bottom card in the left hand and run the last in the right hand to the top again...

Thanks for your answers! :D

Hi there, welcome to the site!
(A) Effectively yes, except back to the top does the move twice.
(B) Because if you didn't, you wouldn't retain the bottom card, and so the bottom card would end up on top, instead of your desired card, which is second from the bottom. You will combine this move with stripping off cards to get your selected card controlled back to the top
