The ends of my thumb always get dry and crusty for some reason. It's the tip of my thumb and also a bit under and around my fingernail. It also seems that the more I tear the dead part of it and some skin, it grows back thicker. It gets quite rough.

Is there anything to heal this to make it a bit more smoother?
Lotion doesn't do much for me either.

I think you're getting a callous... There's callous remover lotion you can get at most any pharmacy.

You need serious moisture there. Picking it off won't help. What I would do, if I were you, is I would go to the pharmacy and get some finger cots. Then, before you go to bed, put a ton of lotion on your thumb, then stick a finger cot over it (maybe a little rubber band to hold it in place, just make sure it's not too tight), and go to bed.

After a while, your thumb will be super moisturized and callous will basically go away (you could probably successfully pick it off then).

And you'll want to check for callous lotions, too, like Rmana said.
