Beginner card trick recommendations?

Ok, so I've bought a couple of magic DVD's already, but so far I've only learned a couple of cool card tricks, which is why I still consider myself a beginner. So now I was thinking about getting some DVD's or downloads that focus mainly on card tricks, like Crash Course 1 and 2 from ellusionist. But just recently I stumbled upon this site, which I personally think has cooler effects available. So instead of getting CC1&2, what cool card DVD's or downloads would you guys recommend from this site instead (for beginners)? Would part one of the Trilogy by Dan and Dave be too hard for me? Or do you think CC1&2 is the best way for me to go for now until I become more advanced? And what else should I consider getting from this site? Thanks for reading. :)

I would reccomend The Royal Road to Card Magic. Its the best for beginners in card magic, in my opinion. If your a very visual learner like i am, get both the DVDs and the book, but if you can learn from just a book then you can just get the book. The book is about $10 and the DVDs are about $70 so if you can really learn from just the book you can save some money. :D

EDIT: The DVDs you can buy at ellusionist and the book you can get at barnes and noble online or most book stores carry it online, but around where i live, none of them carry it in store (only online) but you can always check.

Born to Perform

I have found that Oz Pearlman's Born to Perform DvD is excellent for beginners. It can be found on Penguinmagic.com. One of the greatest books that i have learned from when i started and to today is Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic Book. One of the great books out there that is worth $20.

Put down the Trilogy, amazing DVD, but far from Beginners.

Depends on if you want single or multiple tricks.

Multiple: The Royal Road to Card Magic.
Single: ThisNThat, Anything by Lee Asher eg The Asher Twist, Distortion is Great. People tend to like Panic! Though to be honest, I find it a bit difficult to use, but watch it and if your interested, definately get it!

I would recommend at least buying one pack of the Brown Wynns also, at the price they are at on here, its great to just own one, if you use it, or not.

Just because he posted this at T11 doesn't mean you have to bombard him with theory 11 junk.

Born to Perform is a fantastic DVD, i learned a lot from it.

The trilogy is very advanced, so don't go for that.

Born to Perform is definitely the way to go in my opinion. It definitely helped me out when I was first getting into card magic. There are many good fundementals on the DVD and the teaching is great also.

Wow i find it funny that you say that considering he asked for some tricks from here and ontop of that most people have been reccomending Oz pearlman's Born to Perform Card magic or The Royal Road to Card Magic, neither of which are sold at T11.

Thanks for all of the replies, guys. :) Okay, so far everyon has either recommended "The Royal Road to Card Magic" and "Born to Perform." What are the significant differences between these two?

Blink, it's funny you said that, because tonight when the next window opens for the Brown Wynns I was going to buy myself 3 packs because of the great price. And I also have decided to drop the Trilogy, it does seem quite hard. ;) And also thanks for the list of good single effects. :D

Maybe the best bet would be to buy a 1-on-1 from the Trilogy, and give it a shot!

Just keep practising.

Also, The T&R Project by Huron Low is probably the best DVD I have ever purchased. Maybe a bit expensive for a begineer, but if you get the chance, buy it :).

I got recommended Double Take by Gregory Wilson. Basically it teaches you many different double lifts, replacements of the double lifts, changes and tricks using double lifts.

The quality of the DVD is a bit like a bad porn picture quality and the people in it are dressed like that as well. Cut scenes are like early 90s editing software with early 90s cut scene music. But the stuff teached on it is good and definitely a good buy. I think it was released in the 90s on VHS at first which explains the poor picture quality compared to todays DVDs.

You can see everything 100% fine, but you really get the impression that the DVD was made by porn video makers :p

Hmmmm well Royal Road teaches more moves and sleights but some claim a couple of tricks arent very good or useful (just some opinions). Also royal road includes alot of routines that are ment for a table setting, oz pearlmans DVD are ment for more street magic. In the end its just what you prefer, both are useful. If you got the money you could get pearlman's DVDs for $30 and the royal road book for $10 and just learn from both :D

Hmmm yeah that's really something to consider. Thanks! :D Oh yeah and guys I had one more question. Out of the DVD's/books mentioned, do any of them teach the Ambitouxs Card Routine (ACR)?

Oz pearlman's Born to perform card magic DVD teaches an ambitious card routine but im unsure how good it is. I have crash course two and i found it very useful for ACR but i cannot compare it to Oz pearlman's born to perform because i dont own it hehe. Royal Road doesnt teach an ACR but some of the moves you learn in it you can use in making up your own :D.

no tricks from this site except some 1on1s which you might consider, you could get the Tril. but you will have to work hard, I mean hard, I got it whne I was like an intermediate-beginner, and it was hard as hell, but I pulled through, it was the thing that pushed my card abilities to the next level, because I practiced so much, if you get don't tackle TiVo 2.0 or Hoffzy, wait for those and tackle Card to Mouth, Subway, and Collectors, those are fairly easy.

Royal road is always a nice buy, or try some of the other books like Expert at the card table or Expert Card Technique(I have it, really, REALLY hard to follow, but has a lot of fairly useful sleights especially many ways of palming)

don't buy single tricks or gimmicked tricks (the ones on this site, except for 1on1s), and when you push your card level up, then you could get those, because you gotta build a good foundaton,

RRTCM is the best buy! also born to perform,
if you are deciding between the 2, well Oz on the demo says that he teaches a lot of stuff from RRTCM in BtP, plus he teaches stuff like Swivel cut so it has basic flourishing (sort of), and it's a video so easier to learn from, I'd go with BtP because I heard very good recalls of it!
PS BtP doesn't cover everything from RRTCM
