Charlie Miller

Charlie Miller is among the many legendary figures whose name comes up whenever you talk about top level card magic. Sadly, he's is no longer with us. The good nes is that on the latest episode of the Magic Newswire's "Spirit of Magic Podcast" I am joined some of his closest friends. Johnny Thompson, Harry Riser and Bob White are my guests for a conversation about Charlie Miller! I am thrilled to add this episode to the Magic Newswire interview archive. Enjoy!

So... What did you think Josh?

Wow, that was a really great interview Dodd. One of my top 10 for sure. I'd love to hear more under that format on other magicians like Marlo or Robert Houdin. I loved how detailed they got about teeny tiny details on Miller's pass and bottom. I think I'll even try dealing in the dark. It almost seems like you could do another podcast just as long:)

For those of you who don't visit Dodd's website you are totally missing out. There are all sorts of interviews and round table discussions with interviews from Chris Kenner, J.B. ,theory11 artists and fairly rare interviews with living legends. Check it all out!

Wow. Thanks so much Josh!

I am open to suggestion.

For example... Put together your dream team roundtable discussion. If possible I'll make it happen

I don't know if it would be possible but it would be sweet to hear from some of Marlo's students for example Malone, Racherbaumer, or David Solomon.

I think that a great discussion would be with those who call themselves flourishers or Cardistry artists. These guys are largely misunderstood among magicians and especially those of the older generation. It would be nice to hear from the likes of Chris Kenner, the Bucks, Andrei Jihk or De'vo about the art. It is something that is greatly misunderstood among many magicians who assume that these guys are calling what they do magic. I know you have had discussions on this in the past but it would be nice to hear it from the source :)

I don't know how possible this is with language and such but it would be great to hear from Tamariz and his students. Dani Daortiz and others are doing great things for magic.

Those are my thoughts but really you don't need them. Your podcasts are great and you have more knowledge on these subjects, and more resources than I do. You are doing something great!

I'll see what I can do about the others that you mentioned. I am thrilled that you enjoy the shows. Ignore the ads in the beginning of the earlier ones. I have eliminated ads from the shows and from the site and am allowing both to be supported by donations from listeners who find them worthwhile. So... Of course I need & Want your feedback. Thanks!

Yeah, Dodd I've listened to all of the episodes available on itunes right now including the ones you mentioned above. I've listened to the Bill Malone one 4 or 5 times. What I meant was a round table discussion on Ed Marlo similar to the Miller discussion. You've had Johnny Thompson on the show a couple of times but hearing his experiences with Charlie Miller were worth another interview.

I've listened to the Chris Kenner interviews as well. Cardistry is awfully misunderstood on your program and if you had a round table discussion with some of the most popular flourishers I think it would be a good medium to dispel some of the myths pertaining to the art that are perpetuated by those of the older generation.

There's no need to get rid of the ads I don't mind them. I've been listening to the podcast for the last 3 or so years and you have to have a way to keep it up.

I love the program and I need to donate, I've been benefiting from all your hard work and need to pay my dues. Keep it up :)

I second that!
Juan Tamariz, Dani DaOrtiz, Miguel Angel Gea, Woody Aragon, Rafael Benetar (Venezuela), Ramon Rioboo, Rene Lavand (Argentina), Christian Engblom (Finland), Gabi Pareras, Roberto Giobbi (Suisse), Juan Luis Rubiales, Pit Hartling (Germany) are all fantastic magicians of the spanish school, or at least greatly influenced by it.
