Defiance by Mariano Goni

I remember when I first saw the trailer of this, I was completely fooled of how it works especially that floating cigarette! I think his hookup systems really cancelled a lot of methods that most layman would think of. I am not a thread guy myself but I have to say that I am quite impressed with what is covered on this dvd and what I can get out of this. There?s definitely something for everyone.

// DVD Quality
Murphy always does a great job filming and teaching with multiple camera angles. It?s quite overwhelming at first to learn about thread work if you are not familiar. I know I was when I first received the gimmick, the thread was tangled so that did took me a while to fix it but Mariano does go through all the trouble shoot later in the dvd.

The dvd itself is pretty lengthy and quite long. I personally would love to see the cutting pace a bit faster instead of one long cut especially when there?s a lot of materials to cover.

// Gimmick Quality
It?s larger than I expected but the new improve design is definitely worth the size. I did have some trouble fixing it but if I can get it to work you can too Smile The thread that comes with it is very strong and shouldn?t break like any other ones in the market.

// Favorite Effect
Me personally, I would probably do the floating bill. The setup literally takes like 5 seconds and you can perform this anytime anywhere. What I like is that you can borrow someone?s bracelet or ear ring and pass over the bill very freely. Another one I really like is the floating cigarette. The method is so clever and very fooling and looks very organic which is what I love about.

// Price vs. Effect
I?d say that it?s definitely worth the price. The gimmick that you will receive is already worth $30. Every single hookups here are completely different and I think you will find at least one setup that you can take away from. For $40, it?s definitely a steal.

// DVD Content
// The Incredible Spinning Card:
The magician throws a borrowed credit card several feet away and it hovers in MIDAIR without the magician or spectator any where near it. On the magician's command, he is able to cause the spinning card to fly back to him, as fast or slow as he wants! Includes how to get the spinning card to float through a spinning hoop.

- Method on this one is super clever. Though you would have to carry the extra ?gimmick? besides the original gimmick and prep a bit ahead of time to perform this.

// In The Air Change:
Imagine showing a small piece of paper with a dollar sign drawn on it. The magician crumples the paper into a ball and it begins to levitate. The magician can walk away from the floating ball and go to his case to retrieve a lighter. He burns the floating ball to reveal a bank note in its place, STILL FLOATING IN MIDAIR! Includes how to use the In The Air Change to produce and float a borrowed, vanished finger ring at any point.

- This one looks great but the setup is a bit too much for my taste. It?s more ideal if you have the control environment.

// Floating Bill:
You think you know, but you have no idea. A borrowed bank note is crumpled into a ball and levitates. It floats inexplicably from hand to hand. You can then borrow a hoop earring or a bangle from a lady and pass it around the bill before handing the bill back to its owner.

- Pretty much impromptu. You can perform this with 5 seconds of set up and with any borrow bill and bracelet. Though, quite a bit of practice will have to go into this to execute it smoothly.

// Bonus! Floating Cigarette:
Mariano tips the most impossible levitation of a cigarette known to man. A cigarette floats on the middle of a crowded restaurant table. While in midair, the magician borrows a finger ring and passes it around the cigarette; both objects can be examined. Learn this ingenious method and how to construct the gaff in complete detail. The items required are easy to obtain via most craft stores.

- One of my favorite. The method is very very fooling and I think you will really like this a lot. Though there are some extra props you will need to construct, but once it?s set up, you can perform it as many times as you want.

Had no idea this was already out! Need to grab this, the trailer looks incredible and I'm a huge fan of anything floating (ok, that came out weird).

I'm starting to watch other magicians upload videos of this effect on youtube. It all looks awesome and has had very positive feedback. And in comparison with other levitation effects, this is so cheap. I think I will probably be getting this one. :D
