When the adults tell you "You can be anything you want to be" that's only partially true. You can't simply be anything that you desire. It takes more than just desire to achieve something. It takes failure before you understand the path to success. It takes dedication, drive, sacrifice, and even blood, tears, and sweat.
Here's the hitch: It's never too late until you lay on your death bed and look back in reflection. My father once told me "You'll always find the time for the things that are most important to you." and he's right. Sometimes you have to let go of your fear, step out of your comfort zone, not be afraid to fail, and try to achieve something you've wanted for yourself. Sometimes those things that are important to us changes, solo endeavors become family goals and that's okay too. Just stay true to your heart, listen to it, follow it, and take responsibility for making your own dreams come true.
Your happiness isn't a destination. It's not something you can achieve. Nothing, or no one can MAKE you happy. It's a state of being. You choose to be happy. You can also choose to be unhappy too. Don't allow yourself to do that. Remove any negative obstacle, person, friend or family member from your path that displays a negative attitude towards what you want for yourself. Their negativity is an caustic poison. A corrosive kind of emotional acid that will eat away at your mind, weakening it. A weaken the mind and the body will quickly follow.
If you don't know how to achieve a goal you have for yourself then find the right people in your life that have achieved what you want and hang out with them. Model their behavior, and make it part of your daily lives. If you want to make a million dollars, don't hang out with the teenager flipping burgers at McDonalds. Chances are good he won't know how to help you get what you need. Above all, believe in something even if it is only yourself. The power of belief, or faith, is a high form of magic that can move mountains.
