Ok so we all know about that whole thing where you are not suppose to perform the same trick twice in a row because now people could be looking for the secret or you could mess up and ruin everything. but if that is true, then what is the point of videos??

I mean isn't it pretty much the same thing? Laymen can rewind the video and watch the trick again and might try to find the secret. Sure if you do the trick smoothly on the video, you of course won't mess up when they watch it again, but still.

well for one, video's aren't always readily available to layman. Yes they are on youtube but the majority of people watching those are magicians. and yes there are tv specials but again, its hard to no just when to Tivo something and most people aren't willing to put in the effort because the real truth of the matter is that they WANT to be fooled, no matter what they say. As for a video defeating the idea of not doing something twice i will say this, doing something doubles the chances of incongruencies, where as a video is exactly the same no matter how many times you do it. Doing something twice will change angles, handlings even patter, a video remains the same. Also video's tend to be set up and filmed to best enable the performer to awe. They hide things, they can edit things etc. Its not so easy in real life.
