I'm sure we hear this statement all the time. "It's just a camera trick."
I myself hear this all the time, especially sense I make youtube videos and get lots of views. But I'll also be showing a video from theory11 or ellusionist to my friends at my high school such as TNR or Card Manapulation by Dan Sperry and they're like, "That was soooo stupid. He just editted the video."

In my head I'm just like, " I WANT TO STAB YOU WITH A PENCIL AND THEN MAKE IT VANISH LIKE THE JOKER!!!! In my head of course. :p

But does anyone else get reactions like that and if so, what exactly do you say to that. I mean I have said, "Oh I know he doesn't edit the video to do it because you can buy the DVD and it teaches you how to do it." And they usually are just like "ohh" but they still don't seem impressed with the effect. Any thoughts?

Why are you showing people with no interest in magic videos from T11 and Ellustionist? I don't see the point.

Magic only 'works' when performed in real life. From the beginning of magic on tv, producers knew that people would instantly assume camera tricks. Doug Henning had the idea of performing his specials as a live telecast and then later 'filmed in front of a live audience'. Magicians for years have been building trust with the televised world - what you see on tv is what you would see if you were here.

That same trust has not been established between viewers of internet clips and their creators. Of course, with the heavy editing of Blaine specials and the outright misuse of trust by Criss Angel, it is reasonable that viewers would suspect the easy answer as the right answer.

So, if you want them to believe that what they saw is not camera tricks, then you need to show them in real time, in real life.

Who said they didn't have interest in watching a magic video????? They wanted to see magic. Most of the time I'm watching by myself and they come to me and watch with me.

If your friends are blowing off the magic videos you show them as "just being camera tricks" all the time, I don't think they're interested in magic so much as they are simply curious what you're watching.

If your friends wandered over to see the video about a talking goat you were watching, it doesn't mean they're into goats. More likely, it just means they're normal, curious teenagers that are probably bored and looking to see what someone else is up to.

They wanted to see magic.
If that were true, and they really did want to see magic, why not turn off the YouTube videos and show them some real magic yourself?

well for many reasons, I'm tired and not a monkey that has to perform when asked. Videos tend not to mess up when they're tired. lol

Anyways, they did want to see magic, usually when they're like " Oh you're watching magic, sweet!!!!! " And they come watch with me. They know I do magic therefore want to watch magic.
