So, I was just chilling at ,my house today, fiddling with some cards and stuff when I started to think. I know that there are many special decks that are considered "rare" such as the Black Ghost version 1, White Centurions, and Brown Wynns. But then I started wondering what was the most rare deck of cards ever.
So does anyone know what the rareest deck is?
Or I should say the hardest to find. Even on Ebay???
Mathematically, of the three decks you mentioned, the White Centurions are by far the most rare, with only about 1,100 being printed in total thus far. They've never been released outside of a limited window and our remaining supply of the original print is dwindling.
Overall, though, there are much more rare decks in circulation. A few months ago I was able to tour the USPCC vault with Chris Kenner, at which time we were able to sift through a treasure chest of ultra-rare decks. They don't have one of each deck ever printed, but they have a lot - and a lot of very very rare items. I remember seeing the actual deck used on Air Force One during the term of John F. Kennedy. There were countless others - that's just one that stood out in my mind this evening.
Playing cards have of course been around long before the USPCC, though. Steve Forte's collection is pretty incredible in Las Vegas. He has decks dating back centuries - back to ancient decks and casino gaming objects from as far back, I believe, as the Roman Empire (dice). No offense to White Centurions, but it's hard to compete with the Roman Empire.
It's a pretty fascinating subject. Jason England knows a world about these topics as well; will shoot him a line and see if he can elaborate some more.
