Peter Duffie?

What do you guys think about Peter Duffie. He seems to have some incredible ideas, I bought one book by him and everything in there has setup. I am the kind of performer that likes going out with a card folded in my shoe, and having fun and taking advantage of every situation. I don't enjoy setting up 4 times longer than I am performing or looking for my next target. So if you can't point me towards any great peter duffie ebooks, any ebook will do.

I have about 80% of Duffie's ebooks, in each one I find something I use.

The ebooks vary with difficulty, Card Conceits is quite difficult, while Cards in Principle is very easy. Mr.Duffie excells in both knuckle busting sleights and self workers!

Effortless Card Magic is a large PDF of a book published by Richard Kaufman. Scotland up Close and England Up Close are extremely good, it gotta be the best bang for buck around!

He has a style that some card magicians won't like, and keep in mind that the tricks read extremely dry in print, but if you try them to yourself you'll realize they are very good.

Which one of his ebooks do you own?

Cheers,

Card addict. I also got a free download (not illegal) from i think it was from lybrary.com... maybe called for most.

If you like the impromptu or minimal setup stuff then check out Peter Harrison's eBooks. You'll love 'em!

Thanks for the kind words Shanku!

I must say that Duffie is a genius. One of my fave impromptu effects is one of his. Two cards are selected by the spectator and lost in the deck. The spectator then takes half of the deck and the magician has the other half and the cut was made by the spectator. Both the spectator and the performer turn the top card over on their halves of the deck and find..... nothing. Wrong cards. They instantly exchange halves and turn the top card over again and both find the two selected cards!

His ebooks are excellent and always great value for money. One of the true greats and very respected yet somehow overlooked by many of the younger magicians.

Peter, which books from Mr. Duffie would you highly recommend? I'm thinking of looking into his material as I've heard good things about them. Any specific book? I like the minimal setup, walkaround card magic.

Cheers,
Shanku

Some of Peter Duffie's books look very interesting but i'm a bit hesitant to buy them because there are so many of them.

I don't see how one person can release so much material and keep it consistently good. I always think there's going to be a couple of good effects in each book and a lot of filler. Is this true or are the ebooks worth buying?

Duffie has been creating material for a long long time ( he's like in his 50s now ), he began publishing his ebooks only about 10 years ago. Not to mention 2 books and small booklets in early 90s and late 80s.

There are math based effects that are as direct as math based effects can be, and if you're fimilar with the math principle you'll admit that the guy is a genuis ( I love Bob Hummer's MindReader's Dream. Duffie improved the darn thing and gave a way to do it with borrowed decks. I was like WT* ), there are simple ideas that you'll kick yourself for not thinking of them, and there are stuff that need decent sleight of hand to achieve, but fully worth the effort. Keep in mind that some effects while read extremely dry on "paper", but are very good when you perform them. This is why I'd recommend performing, or at least watching all the effects in the ebook you're buying on camera, while you performing them.

Keep in mind that some presentations aren't so good, prepare to make your own presentations or make major modifications. Some presentations are very good, and I use many of them.

Hi Peter,
Any chance you know that name of the Duffie trick you mention below, or which ebook it may be in? Only reason I ask is I've been hunting for it for months and haven't been able to find it yet.

Thanks

What sort of magics does he speacialise in? Is he quite selective in his printings, as I have never heard his name before. I am always on the lookout for commercial gems, but one can only consume so much Giobbi and Sankey before one needs to see other styles.
