I found out before I went to bed that night and it broke my heart. He had done so much for the world of magic and made us understand the importance of knowing the history of our craft. Back when I started to do magic, I had watched his Deceptive Practice documentary and a recording of 52 Assistance. Ricky Jay was the only magician I knew at the time and through the documentary I discovered Slydini, Cardini, Dai Vernon, Charley Miller, and the history of magic. I would probably not care as much for the craft as I do now or be a magician if it wasn't for him.
Ricky Jay, we will all miss you and thank you for all that you have done for the art of magic. May you rest in peace.
