Saturday Night Contest - Fake Magic Exposure!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Casey Rudd, Nov 5, 2011.

  1. Over the past year, we’ve hosted 3 Magic Exposure Contests, each generating tons of submissions and making a real difference in the fight against exposure. The concept is simple: we make lots of fake exposure videos with wild, ridiculous methods, and we make it very, very difficult to find REAL exposure videos.

Every single submission counts. It helps us all and the artists whose families and livelihoods depend on their creations. With all that said, it's time for round three! Let's get started.

All you have to do for tonight’s contest is pick out ANY effect and “reveal” it on video - or even in a blog post - in a funny yet completely illogical way! It’s super easy, and all you need is a video camera or blog and a trick to make a fake tutorial for.

For example, you could make a video explaining VERTIGO, that uses dental floss, three pennies, and pixie dust. You can even make MULTIPLE videos or blog posts to enter tonight; you aren't limited to just one entry! Bonus points if your entry makes us fall out of our chairs laughing. The more creative, the better.

Entries tonight should be posted on YouTube, Vimeo, your blog, or any other website where we can publicly view your submission. Make sure your video settings are listed to "Public" (not private, and not unlisted) so we can see everyone’s submissions! Post a link to your submission in THIS forum thread no later than 11:00pm EST.

What shall the winner receive? You can walk away with a 6 PACK of Release-Day MONARCH Playing Cards! For fighting against magic exposure, you shall be highly rewarded.

We encourage you to KEEP your submission online long after tonight's contest ends. Let's fight exposure and have a little bit of fun in the process. Can't wait to see you guys' submissions!

  3. Is it just me?

Is it just me, or does anyone else find this whole fight magic exposure thing a little weird? I mean, theory 11 is a business, right? They make money by selling magic and cards to fellow magicians. They rely on fellow magicians to buy their $30 DVDs and such. Some of the magicians they sell to decide to reveal how these tricks work for other magicians that may not want to spend $30 to learn these tricks or moves. I may not agree with these people's actions, but that's how it is. What I find weird is the fact that Theory 11 artists, who make their living selling to magicians, decide to preserve their livelihood by getting these magicians they sell to to fight for them. They get these same people they sell their overpriced stuff to, rile them up, dangle a new deck of cards in front of them, and tell them to help them fight magic exposure so they can continue to sell you overpriced stuff.

Like I said, I don't agree with exposers, but does anyone else find this a little weird?

Oops! Youtube killed the upload due to a media violation. Switching to Vimeo. Check for an updated post in about 2 minutes with the new link to my submission.

    Sorry all.
