Hi guys,

I'm planning a mentalism show. I need an opener that'll grab the audience's attention quickly. But I want it to be completely silent.

Any suggestions?

This question isn't really answer-able without knowing your style of performance, level of knowledge, and performance character pretty intimately.

For example - I've opened a bizarre/mentalism show with human blockhead. Silent piece that really got everyone's attention. But that won't work for most people.

Interesting thought because due to the nature of most openers you want something that is quick and flashy and stimulates your audience. You typically need to "hook" them in the first 30 seconds. This can be accomplished with upbeat music, visual appearance, etc.

I think it would be more accurate to say the opener needs to set the mood and generate interest/engagement. Most magicians do this by being flashy, but it's not necessary at all.

I also think too many people who are trying to be mentalists try to be too visual. That's not what mentalism is about.
