Talent Show Help... (Kind Of...)

At school there will be a talent show within the next month or two and all of my teachers and friends have been urging me to do it. My animation teacher says he could hook up a camera looking down at my hands and project it up onto a board if I wanted to do a card trick.

I thought and thought that maybe Dream of Aces would work. But I have some certain guidlines and I just wanted to know if this effect would work.

1: Can it be done without patter? ( is it easily understandable witout words.)

2: I really want to use no words and just music. I want something kind of sad but strange and good. What do you suggest? (I was thinking "Name" by the Goo Goo Dolls.)

3: If the above questions don't work for Dream of Aces what is another trick that can be done in maybe five minuttes, doesn't need words, and can use some cool music?

Thanks in advance,
Dylan P.

Yes you can perform Dream Of Aces without any patter, in fact on the performance DVD that is how they perform it in one of the performances, I have never heard the song "Name" by the Goo Goo Dolls but this trick is very easy to perform yet very astonishing to the audience, I would recommend it for your talent show... :)

oke, here's my opinion:

Dream of Aces looks beautifull done without patter, in fact, I think it is better done without patter (watch the ellusionist trailer). With that in mind, lets look at the music ;)

Name by the Goo Goo Dolls is okay, but I think you will want a deeper, more mysterious song. I can only imagine people getting sick of that song half way though the trick. I've actually performed Drea of Aces with only music many a times, and there is an aura of unparalleled beauty when performed right.

Instrumentals: (sad but strange and good)

Devotchka - How it ends
is an awesome song, a bit sad, but very deep and strong. IT's also in the Gears of War 2 trailer.

Steve Jablonsky - The score (transformers track 03)
This si a beautiful song form the Transformers movie and is great for 'smooth and beautiful magic.

Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death
This is a very strong orchestral piece, but perhaps it is suited for magic which is a bit more fast paced. You decide.

Tsutchie - Thank You
If there was ever one perfect, smooth and beautiful song, it would be Tsutchie's Thank You.

Ludovico Einaudi - Fouri al mondo
This is the song from "This is England" and it's very deep and meanigfull, albeit a little slow. You should check it out anyways, you never know what you'll like ;)

ColdPlay - Clocks
Not totally instrumental, but amazingly beautifull nonetheless :)

David Schombert - Hommage
Smotoh, silky and slow, all in one. Definately look at this one.

Massive Attack - Teardrop
Need I say more?

So that was my list for instrumental songs. Need any more? Just ask me her eor send me a PM;)

You could maybe use Led Zep's Stairway to Heaven for your song? I can imagine that working nicely. I think Dream of Aces fits this criteria nicely.
