The only trick that seems impossible to me.

Hello comunity,

Right now i am watching Romanians got talent, and even though i've seen this representation many times in many shapes, tonight i've seen the best one. After so much thinking i decided to ask you guys.
Can someone point me in the direction of where can i learn how something like this can be done?

While I've not seen that particular trick before, I'm betting the principles are in Tarbell.

This effect employs typical illusion principles that are much older than Tarbell, but Tarbell would be a good start. What sells this effect is the way it's presented... that particular magician's use of the classic principles.

The way to learn about illusions is to study illusions. Tarbell is a great start (plus it has everything else you'd ever want to know about every area of magic). Another good idea is to get a Genii subscription and use Ask Alexander to research old issues where there are illusions by Paul Osborne and Jim Steinmeyer. Also, check out Paul Osborne's site (Osborne Illusions) and Jim Steinmeyer's site. Paul has a lot of plans available and some books that contain plans for the classic illusions (at a much lower price than buying the individual plans). Jim has some great technical books, but they are expensive (one book is the same price as the entire Tarbell set) and focus more on modifications to the basic principles rather than explaining those principles.

One last piece of advice which is based on the fact that you're new here and most likely new to magic. If you don't intend to perform big box illusions, don't learn about them. Just enjoy the magic as a spectator. Illusion shows are a very different experience when you know how everything is done.

I agree with this one hundred percent. Enjoy the magic!!!

If this trick fools you then I guarantee this is not "The only trick that seems impossible" to you.Unless you are going to do it don't learn it.

It's a fun twist to the mini-Geometric effect that's commercially available (and I do enjoy the twists he's added) but as everyone has pointed out, the methodS used are quite old (there is more than one thing going on, which is what throws most).

If this is the kind of magic that you're attracted to then start with Tarbell and then graduate to the Paul Osborne library for a more contemporary perspective on things. You'll be amazed as to the number of effects out there that employ the same basic positions for the person inside the prop even though the effect differs. That said, if you really look at this prop and study the general design, you can easily figure out where the girl is at and the position she's in.

Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately magic books are not very available in my country. I think that RealityOne is right. If i am not going to perform it, i should enjoy it. I am more of a close up guy anyway :D

Magic Books Aren't Available?

You're on-line, you can get books from just about anywhere, especially if you can understand English, French, Spanish or German. There's a handful of the popular American books that have been translated to at least one of these other European languages as well as Japanese and/or Chinese.

If you really want to learn the basics and move in this direction just keep your eyes peeled here, I'm working on something (probably won't be ready before late fall) that may just give you an upper-hand -- a long list of major illusions that can be made from Cardboard, PVC, Fabric, and only limited skill.
