Earlier this week, theory11 had the opportunity to perform at one of the largest technology conferences in the world. Our goal was to demonstrate a piece of magic that was fun, offbeat, memorable, and (most importantly) had a presentation centered around technology. The result was an incredibly interactive routine that blew the minds of the entire Techcrunch Disrupt audience, as well as thousands of viewers at home. Close to 450 tweets were made during the performance in less than 5 minutes.

This week's contest is inspired by that same concept. Your task tonight is to film a video demonstrating an effect or routine that utilizes at least one piece of technology. The trick does NOT have to be original - but at least one electronic item must be used in the performance (cellphone, digital watch, computer, calculator, etc.). The performance can be as simple as a card revelation using your cellphone's caller ID feature or something more elaborate and interactive - the choice is yours.

Note that there is a limit of two video entries per participant, so make your submissions count! All videos should be uploaded to Youtube, Vimeo, or Drop.io and posted as a response to this thread no later than 11:00pm EST for judging. The winner tonight will take home three 1-on-1 training videos of your choice, on the house. Good luck guys!

YES! Finally!!!

I've been performing with technology for a year now! I perform mostly for fellow teenagers, and as peopel know, technology is in our blood. Almost every performance a phone is out and visible (usually they aren't being used, my presentation is too demanding :p). So someone noticed I had a picture of a back of a playing card on my home screen one day (it was just there for kicks) and they sayed "Is that my card?" I of course said yes, and got some laughs and moved on. This is how I came up with this trick: http://vimeo.com/12142454 It uses the settings available on my phone, no extra apps or anything. I change the card daily, takes about 10 seconds to change. (Disregard the pink phone, my current one broke so I had to use my sister's old one D:)

A lot of the time I'm performing in my school's computer lab, so how could i pass up the option of messing with internet explorer? Another card relevation (I'll provide link when uploading is done) was born. I have two methods to ultimately the same effect, I'll provide both videos when vimeo is done processing.

I like the idea of the contest very much, and I do have something in mind, but I don't have a workable method for it, though... shame, but thanks for inspiring me!

And great submissions so far.

Submission 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXbswBONGOM
Submission 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMOQwIC1Nzo

Those are my two submissions. The first one is an original trick of mine entitled Scribbles of Destiny. I took a feature found in a normal doodle application and applied it to a magic trick. This was published in the January, 2010 issue of Genii Magazine.

The second submission is an older video, and it's a fun trick using the passcode on the iPhone/iPod Touch.
