Variations of Tricks

I've been thinking.

I always see videos on youtube that say:

'Tivo 2.0 variation' or 'Queens variation' or whatever.....

However, in many videos the methods are completely different from the original trick, but people still call them "variations" for some reason.

Here are a few Tivo 2.0 "variations."

In these and other videos, the methods or the whole effect are completely different, so why do people call them variations? Aren't they completely different tricks?

To what exent can a trick be changed to still be a variation? If you us a different card control, is it still a variation? If you use a different color change, does that make it a whole different trick?

If the trick is based on another, but uses different sleight to achieve a similar result, it is a variation. Sometimes, they are called "handlings"... For example, there are several "handlings" or "variations" or Dai Vernon's Triumph. They can be radically different methods but the end result is somewhat similar.
