Hey guys! I was reading Expert Card Technique, and I read how to do the "Lift Get Ready" for a double lift. I was wondering why nobody really uses this move. Is it to obvious? Is it just a forgotten move?

I think people use it, but it simply isn't as favored as a pinky count, our strike, or whatever. It's kind of like false dealing. You pick a method and practice the hell out of it before you experiment with other methods. As a result if someone likes, for example, the pinky count, and is comfortable with the pinky count, they can then try this and see if they like it, and vice versa. However, at first glance it seems kind of counter intuitive to take the more natural looking slight (which is what the pinky count will look like at first glance to both sides), and substitute it for another one (though not necessarily if you think about how it applies to your style).
Someone who puts in the time to perfect it will love it, just as how others spend time perfecting other methods. It's all personal preference.
Think about it like Neapolitan Ice Cream. The majority Like Chocolate the most, a large amount prefer Vanilla as there favorite, but some people still prefer Strawberry. Are the people who choose Strawberry wrong? No (well maybe with this specific example, but that's besides the point! #VanillaAllTheWay!). They are simply choosing a flavor not as popular as the others. Which means less people have to share the Strawberry. Which means more ice cream for them. Which means.... I need to go find Ice Cream now, thanks a lot

If you watch even many magicians who are reputed to be "card men" do a double lift, it looks suspicious - you can see (and so can laymen) that thee is a "move," that does not look natural. Most "get readies" fall into that category. It has been said many times before that a double lift or double turnover should look just like it would look when you turn over a single card - no contrived movements just relaxed and natural...
I agree. Luckily (thanks to the fact that the internet and communities like this exist) I figured this out way early on. I have been developing my DL since.
Personally, I find this type of set up kinda weird, simply because I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. This also works with my style, as I would be talking while I did the get ready any ways, so I do a pinky count while my hands are at their side, simply because I need to slightly shift my grip to flex the deck. I am working on the Dai Vernon Simulated Double lift but can't seem to get it. To me, this combo is what the most natural DL is, but this differs from person to person. Someone else might find a flourish DL the most natural.
It's All Subjective.
For real magic, you must go beyond the plain vanilla.
