    Best self working card effect.

Theres only one effect that I use and class as self working, although it does require a small set up and a force, and that is John Bannon's "Play It Straight". That routine is simply killer, probably gets better reactions than any other effect I perform.

I also do something similar to Reuben, keeping a record of effects. I have an excel sheet with tricks/effects that I like, and i have columns such as standup/table, set up, difficulty, practicality, ideal number of spectators, source learnt from, creator, other inspirations, cleanness, patter...

I have 10 stand up effects and 10 table effects that I can perform any time, and sometimes i may combine them into routines and whatnot.

    Invisible Palm/Open Travelers

Thank you! I love the half vanish! I think its much more convincing and suitable for the routine than a rub-a-dub :)

    Rub A Dub Vanish

I agree with Chr!s about having the fingers open. Also, the top right corner of the card should be just past your pinky (when the fingers are open), so its slightly visible out the side of your hand, just before the move. Its a very small detail but makes it look that little bit better...

I mean just have both cards face up...so yes its slightly different but it can all be done with 1 simple move rather than 3...it would also be much easier to follow in the spectators eyes. Don't get me wrong I love your method its very clever, I just think this way is more practical for the...

I liked it but I think your over complicating it, when a more direct version can be achieved simply with a turnover pass, its nice for magicians though.

    Improvising After A Mess Up

Im not saying have outs for every single routine... just a few for general situations, such as losing a break and finding the wrong card. Regarding practicing, having to use an out also encourages you to practice more so you don't have to do it again. And of course improvisation is used as...

    Improvising After A Mess Up

So you'd rather mess up and leave a bad impression on your audience than do a good trick (In their eyes)? Hmm...

    Improvising After A Mess Up

Every magician should have many outs. One I use if i find the wrong card... I say "Oh well what is your card then?" then I spread through face up, culling it and say "Ah I know what the problem is, I couldn't find your card because it's not even in the deck" then bottom palm it into pocket or...

    Bertroid Change

Hey guys, a quick little colour change I stumbled upon. Its nothing outstandingly original but I think it looks quite good. It's not particularly suitable for real life performance as its quite angle sensitive, but nonetheless i'd love to hear what you guys think of it. Please read the...
