How many of you coin guys back palm (with coins of course) on a regular basis? Is the move essential? I'm willing to put in the practice, but I'm wondering if Down's palm will do instead because it's so much easier.

back palming is mostly for bigger coins like the American one dollar. Useful for more stage magic productions.
Sankey uses more specifically the goshman's/tenkai's pinch in his "Mr. Clean's Coins Across".
You might want to look into CoineOne by Homer Liwag, if you're into back clipping.
Down's palm is easier compared to back palming I would think.
For close up down's is used more often than back palming due to better angles.
Also from down's palm you can transfer into curl palm and even edge grip.

Learn the Goshman pinch, there are some great coins across routines you can do (among others). You won't find them on Metal either. True gems in coin magic are buried in books and combinations of older routines.
Downs palm isn't widely used because of angle issues, but it's cool to learn. Downs is the only person who I've ever read about to widely use that palm with like 10 coins in the palm and produce them one by one.

I think it depends if you have an appropriate coin size for your hand. I've got large hands and I found that 1972 1 Peso coin (similar size as half dollars if I'm not mistaken) works best for me. But I only use the move when my spectators are already in the magic. I mean, if they are already misdirected enough to miss the action of back palming the coin.
