Hello,
I am looking for a book Recommendation preferably something still in print. I am in between a beginner and intermediate. I am more concerned with the quality of the effects not that it is easy or hard. I also I’m not trying to fool magicians. I have the AOA series and the Card College series and 13 Steps. I just finished reading Strong magic. I am aware that alone is significant amount of work to do in itself. Thank you all in advance for any recommendations!

Close up magic. Right now I mostly do card magic and a bit of mental magic...but would like to branch out a bit I like to preform for family and friends and occasionally at a nearby dive bar by my house....I was considering Approaching Magic for my next purchase but was curious what others recommend.

who are some of the performers you like? are you looking for techniques, methods, theory, "routines"? more classic or modern approach to magic?

I am huge fan of Paul Harris, Andrew Gerard, Jeff McBride, Michael Ammar, Daniel Garcia, David Regal....I am looking at more techniques/methods...I like both classic and modern....My performance style tends to be slightly dark with dry humor.

You would do fine with any of David Regal's books. You can get more information here by clicking on the link for each book:https://davidregal.com/category/products/books/

You would also do very well with Eugene Burger's Performance of Close Up Magic, Experience of Magic or Mastering the Art of Magic:https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magician/Eugene-Burger/

I like Eugene Burger's books because there is an intermixing of essays and effects. David Regal's books have a lot more effects.

You might also consider Tommy Wonder's Books of Wonder:https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/stage-and-parlor-magic/the-books-of-wonder/ Those are a balance of essays and effects but more effects than essays.

Get Bobo's book on coin magic, the Expert Card Technique, Paul Zenon's book on Street Magic and any one of the Karl Fulves' Self-working 'series' books to begin with.

All the best!

:)

Interpreting Magic - David Regal is one of the best books I've read in a long time. It's huge! and hits hard.
