How to Take Notes

I haven't read a lot of magic books, and I want to start reading more. My question is, when reading a magic book such as Card College or Expert Card Technique, are you supposed to take notes? Do you take notes? If so, how do you take notes? What type of stuff do you write?(And please don't just say stuff like "You can do what ever you want.") Thanks!

@RyanMagician, you can do whatever you want. o_O

I don't take notes as part of learning a sleight or method. It is there in the book. I do keep notes on effects that I like in a separate document. Those aren't about the effect itself, but more my ideas on how to use it or how to improve it. I also keep detailed scripts on how I present magic effects.

I also use Dennis Behr's Conjuring Archive when my memory and/or notes fail me. I know a concept / routine / effect is out there, I use the archive to try to remember where I've read it.

One other thing to think about is to film yourself and your performance - it can provide you with a way to recall how you performed an effect.

If there is an effect I like I will usually rewrite how the perform it as well as little notes to myself on ways I would like to perform it. Like if there is something I should be telling the spectator while I and performing.
I look at magic books like text books and take notes how I would in school.
