Anyone who has ever been a fan of professional wrestling has probably heard the term "Kayfabe."
It is defined as; "the portrayal of staged events within the industry as "real" or "true," specifically the portrayal of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants as being genuine and not of a staged or pre-determined nature of any kind."
So how does this relate to magic you may ask?
Well, i was thinking about it the other night (rather than getting my full 8 of sleep of course) and i am genuinely curious how different magicians feel about their magic?
I know a lot of magicians will protect their persona to the grave and live every moment of their lives as the character they portray in their shows.
I on the other hand make it clear to the audience that we are watching a "show" and that i am letting them take a step out of reality for a moment to imagine and witness the impossible.
The audience of course is aware that what i am doing is not real, however i see magicians take their persona so far sometimes as to swear that what they did was real and that they are a wizard.
Of course this is taking it to the extreme end of the spectrum, however i am curious how you see your magic persona and what is your approach to magic. If someone were to ask you after the show how you did it, what would your answer be? (I use magic to make that coin vanish Vs. I practice 3 hours a day to make that coin vanish)
