That's why for a lot of my tricks I'll hold the cards with the faces toward them and tell them to pick one that they like. It makes it almost impossible for them to forget the card from my experience.
Good idea. I do use that tactic sometimes, but this was a routine inspired by the David Blaine trick (I have no idea what he calls it) which requires the Q of Spades and the 6 of Clubs. So I really had no choice but to throw myself into a tricky situation. But hey! It worked out great and had a great reaction to it. No one even remembered or cared that it was not exactly a "fair choice" because she had no idea what she was doing hahaha.

There's also times where it's within your patter or part of the trick to purposely get something wrong and the spec says "oh no I'm so sorry the trick didn't work! My card was the ....." It's quite funny when you're not even close to the climax
