I believe "the reaction" comes from the presentation and emotional hook...not the props. I've seen amateurs mess up "killer effects" and get no reaction and on the contrary I have seen professionals take a worthless piece of junk effect and turn it into a "miracle".

to echo reverhart's reply, if youve ever seen "frozen" by Adam Grace its a great trick and can get some killer reactions. I saw a video on youtube and in 4 showings the magician got almost no reactions. it was a sad sight to see.

i would go with the sponge balls, just because they are cheaper, and you can get more "gimmicks" for those.
unless you are fine with just the normal routine, you can get ear plugs.
if you want to be more "magician like" you can get 3d sponge bunnies. so you can pull the rabbit out of the hat, and they are just as easy to use as the balls.

I absolutely agree. However, there's not much of a learning curve for Sponge balls/other props. You can learn a basic routine and be getting girls to scream in under an hour as long as you have at least some presentational skill (Guy's usually just stare and go, "Wait ... what?! WHAT THE ****!). I think that's one of their greatest assets, actually. It's a wicked confidence booster to do almost nothing and have such vociferous reactions.

Though I don't use Sankey's Ear Plugs, I'm sure they'll get satisfactory reactions. It's basically just a sponge ball routine with a giant load at the end.

I personally didn't care for the ear plugs. They aren't NEARLY as soft as spongeballs so it is easier to tell when there is more than one in their hands
