Stebbins to NDO?

hello friends,

I have been working with Si Stebbins for a while and have been trying to return the stack to NDO.

So I’m trying to find a shuffling technique to rerun to NDO from Si Stebbins. I use “Si Stebbins Secret” from Ortiz book, so I’m looking for something like that to go back to NDO. If y’all know of anything. Or to point me in the right direction.

Well it depends on what you're using it for.

I'd say a deck switch is the easiest work around in most cases.

Ok now I did a bit of research, and found this by @RickEverhart back in 2012
I believe someone once told me that if you put a deck in Si Stebbins stack, and then do 3 perfect farrow shuffles it will go back to new deck order but I've never had the time or energy to sit and try it.

Test it (left to right, first row is the first 13 cards):

New Deck:

6H-9S-QC-2D-5H-8S-JC-AD-4H-7S-10C-KD-3H-

6S-9C-QD-2H-5S-8C-JD-AH-4S-7C-10D-KH-3S-

6C-9D-QH-2S-5C-8D-JH-AS-4C-7D-10H-KS-3C-

6D-9H-QS-2C-5D-8H-JS-AC-4D-7H-10S-KC-3D-

1 Faro keeping the top card

6H-6C-9S-9D-QC-QH-2D-2S-5H-5C-8S-8D-JC-

JH-AD-AS-4H-4C-7S-7D-10C-10H-KD-KS-3H-3C

6S-6D-9C-9H-QD-QS-2H-2C-5S-5D-8C-8H-JD-

JS-AH-AC-4S-4D-7C-7H-10D-10S-KH-KC-3S-3D

2nd Faro

6H-6S-6C-6D-9S-9C-9D-9H-QC-QD-QH-QS-2D-

2H-2S-2C-5H-5S-5C-5D-8S-8C-8D-8H-JC-JD-

JH-JS-AD-AH-AS-AC-4H-4S-4C-4D-7S-7C-7D-

7H-10C-10D-10H-10S-KD-KH-KS-KC-3H-3S-3C-3D

3rd Faro

6H-JH-6S-JS-6C-AD-6D-AH-9S-AS-9C-AC-9D-

4H-9H-4S-QC-4C-QD-4D-QH-7S-QS-7C-2D-7D

2H-7H-2S-10C-2C-10D-5H-10H-5S-10S-5C-KD-5D-

KH-8S-KS-8C-KC-8D-3H-8H-3S-JC-3C-JD-3D

Not quite but we're definitely getting somewhere. 2 Faros puts all 4 of a kind together. A 4th looks like it'll bring 4 of the same suit together, followed by 4 separate group of 3 cards of the same suit, followed by a group of 4, then repeat.

I think a 5th will put all of them together? Someone willing to try the rest? Because that took way longer than expected (I did it on a computer because I figured it'd be faster than with a physical deck. Was probably wrong)

If you do 6 Out Faro Shuffles, it puts all of the suits together in a semi numerical order. I put a deck into the Stebbins Stack with the Ace of Clubs starting on top of the deck and and Jack of Diamonds on the bottom. After 6 Out Faros, the first 13 cards were Clubs, the next 13 cards were Hearts, then Spades and finally Diamonds. Again, not 100% in order in terms of numbers, but close. At this point, you would have to separate the 4 suits and give each group 1 cut to put each one A-K or K-A.

Well it’s for sure I never thought about it as much as this haha. I’ll work it out. For me it’s more of a personal experiment with the stack. No real use in my show just more for me.

I really apreci this insight.

Hey so just FYI, I found this simulator online. You can use the drop down to select Si Stebbins.

https://natedog.com/cards/faro.html

6 out Faros puts you almost close enough. All the suits are together and in order, just not starting ace through king (i.e. the Ace might be first once, then the next row starts at a 6, but it all maintains numerical order)
