What are dealer coins for?

I've been wondering for a while. You can of course use them for coin magic, but what other use or purpose do they usually serve?

It's called a button or buck. In game play it is used to avoid arguments over is the dealer. In home games it is natural to change dealers each hand, this isn't always the case, so the button rotates with each round.
