Hey guys, I have a Spring Formal coming up and I was looking for some good opening lines to say to people in that environment to ask to show someone magic. I normally try to stay away from stuff like: You wanna see trick? Watch this. and let me show you something. When ask to show someone magic I say, "Do you mind if I show you guys some magic?" I feel there are far better opening lines than that. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wasn't there already a thread about this? I distinctly remember a thread almost exactly like this not long ago.

Just remember this formula: Compliment. Introduction. Question.

I agree with Christopher. Personally i believe you should approach energetically and show that you're just here to have fun. I usually just go up to people and say something like "Hey, You wanna see a little magic." Check out How to disturb Reality's Approach Anxiety videos. They show you just how little your opening line matters.

How little the opening line matters? I'd have to question that. The opening is crucial for setting the mood - it will immediately cement or disprove whatever impression they formed of you as you walked toward them. Believe me - the performance starts well before you actually say anything.

If you notice during the Approach Anxiety videos, if he says something weird for an opening line, it really ruins the mood and make the whole experience awkward. Then when the spectator tells their friends about a magician they saw, they would say, "I saw a magician today that said something really weird". They would not remember you for your magic, but for an awkward opening line you said.

This guy is not that great and he exposes magic he did not create using names for the videos like David Blane and the President and things like that.
